Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Siske.
Hi Jay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started Out Here Co. in the summer of 2020. I’ve always loved the outdoors, hunting, country music, and retro lifestyle, so I decided to start a brand that was a combination of these. We started with our Tailgate Sessions, which featured up-and-coming singer/songwriters. Shortly after, we made a few hats and sold them on our website. We’ve done a few different sessions and will continue to do more. We were thrilled when Hardy wore our hats at his shows at Madison Square Garden. We for sure saw a spike in our online activity after that. We also are finishing up a fundraising video series with the National Wild Turkey Confederation to help with the conservation of the wild turkey. The project is called the Pawn Shop Shotgun and has featured country artists Randall King and Muscadine Bloodline. We can’t wait to continue this journey.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy for sure. Building and creating a brand is not easy; there’s more that goes into a brand than some would think. The legal side and taxes alone are scary to figure out, then add on top products and inventory. It’s enough to keep you busy and more.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been in the film world since I was young, helping my older brother Sam Siske with his film projects. Out Here Co. is my side hustle, which is what the kids call it these days. I do freelance film work full time, from camera operating to Grip & Electrical work. My first real job in the creative realm was in Missoula, MT, working for Montana Wild, filming and taking photos of their adventures out west, from fly fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout to hiking the mountains chasing elk. Out Here Co. combines my interests, from filming the acoustic country sessions to filming the hunts in the Pawn Shop Shotgun series. You can’t get any better country music and the outdoors, and you can’t get any better than that.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I’d like to have a small slice of heaven in the country to raise a family and provide a living to enjoy some of the things I love and pursue my dreams.
