Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Barry.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Atlanta and was raised in a very musical family. Both my mom’s parents and my uncle are musicians so I grew up watching them and it definitely inspired me. I had a true passion for performing from a young age and loved to write songs as a kid. Fast forward to 2017, I visited Nashville for the first time to join my friend for a few shows. I spent the weekend going to as many writers’ rounds and showcases as I could and met a ton of awesome people.
I felt an instant connection to the town and the music and decided to call it home. I spent the first year in town learning how to play guitar, write a few songs, and learn cover tunes. I started to play writers’ rounds and got my first gig on Broadway. I’ve been lucky to play with some seriously amazing talent on Broadway, and have had a set band and steady schedule at Tootsies for a few years now.
In 2019, I recorded and released my first single, “Roll With Me” along with a music video. It was so fun getting to be a part of that creative process firsthand. This past year I’ve been really focused on writing. I got to be part of LeAnn Phelan’s Creative Therapy Workshop where I met so many great writers and learned about the industry. I’ve met new friends and cowriters from across the world, it’s been so cool connecting and creating together.
I definitely feel like my story is just beginning. I plan on releasing new music this year and cannot wait for what’s to come!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been an adventure for sure, there have definitely been some moments where I wanted to call mom and say “I’m coming home!” I moved here knowing one person, so I had to put effort into being immersed in the Nashville scene.
Basically growing my friend circle and support system from the bottom up was challenging at times- but I got very lucky with the group of friends that I met. When Covid hit, I was preparing to release my EP and was playing steady gigs with my band. Obviously, that changed very quickly when everything shut down! But I had some fun getting creative and doing Facebook live shows. It definitely showed me how unpredictable things can be in the music business, and makes me really grateful for the good times.
I think it can also be a challenge to show up and not compare yourself to others in this town. There’s always going to be someone you think is “better” or whatever, but you can’t let it stop your stride. We are all bringing something to the table.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I play live shows with my band 5 nights a week, performing is one of my strengths and I love connecting with people through music. Right now I’m really focused on planning my next release, and writing new material to share!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
You can support me by streaming and sharing my music and following me on social media. I’m always open to collaborating with fellow creators, let’s connect!
