Rising Stars: Meet Jordan Carlson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Carlson. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Skipping Stone was formed in July 2020. Starting off in garages and basements working on writing original music that was specifically geared towards appealing to both the rock and metal audience. Skipping Stone wanted to write songs that were radio-friendly but still more than just the “hard rock” that you hear every day. Writing songs with meaning was important to us. Our first song “Wither” was released in December 2020. Skipping Stone’s catchy songs, heavy riffs, and skillful solos leave you wanting more and more. In 2022 Skipping Stone released two EPs; “Monsters of Men” and “Hurricanes & Hand Grenades”, which have been received extremely well and can be heard on radio around the globe.

Skipping Stone’s musical prowess paved the way for them to play with groups such as Puddle of Mudd, Blacktop Mojo, The Lonely Ones, PLUSH, Smile Empty Soul, I Set My Friends On Fire, Escape The Fate, and more.

Skipping Stone is fronted by Singer/Guitar player Jordan Carlson, who is almost completely deaf due to a rare disease developed as a teenager. His story is inspiring to say the least. Kelly Hood plays a mean Lead Guitar with shredding solos reminiscent of days gone by. Tom Hicks brings powerful screams and low chugs with his extended-range guitars. Patrick Robb brings in a steady thump in the bass, while Dan Iles provides the rhythm with his powerful drumming

They have been featured in Loudwire, Power Play: Rock & Metal Magazine, and many other music news outlets.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Covid was extremely difficult on the music industry. Finding a way to put on a safe show was challenging. Skipping Stone worked hard with many venues to put on a show that would allow people to escape the confinement of their homes, but still, provide a safe environment.

Jordan, their singer is also mostly deaf due to a rare disease that developed as a teen. He wears hearing aids to assist in day-to-day life, but it does make the process of simply playing and writing music entirely more difficult.

Skipping Stone has been traveling around the TN, KY, IN, IL, and OH areas bringing their music to anyone who will listen.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Skipping Stone is a collective of a ton of musical influences put into one package. Their music has a modern style but a familiar flare of days gone by. Powerful vocals provide a melody that really sticks in your head, while paired with skillful guitar work and intoxicating rhythms it’s hard not to walk away humming their songs.

Stepping outside the norm, Skipping Stone takes an old-school approach to be raw and real as possible. There are no backing tracks or on-stage trickery. They have 3 guitar players so that you can get that “studio quality” sound live.

Their most popular song to date is “Trust Me (everything is going to be fine)” with over 50k streams/views to date.

This song was written in memory of a dear friend and fellow musician who tragically passed away while in the middle of a performance on stage due to a heart attack. “Trust Me” seems to resonate with the audience in a way that not many songs these days can.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Skipping Stone is coming to Nashville on April 15th for a show at 404 Bar and Grill @ 404 Elysian Fields Road Nashville, TN 37211

They are also working on a new album releasing several new songs all through 2023. Be sure to keep up with them on Facebook or other social media outlets. you can find everything at www.skippingstonerocks.com.
