Rising Stars: Meet Joseph Everett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Everett.

Hi Joseph, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Dirty Joe’s Candle Co. in mid-2020 and was formed as a result of making funny videos online.

I had always wanted to be a film director as a kid and decided to start making funny and relatable content. Along the way, people commented that I should “Be selling a product.” So I bought a candle kit that came with 3 candles that came out smelling great. Sat down and thought, hey why do we light candles?

Especially from a man’s perspective? Most of the time it’s because you’ve got company coming over… With a little creativity and research, we began to theme our product with inappropriately funny candles. To us, it’s a win-win.

Great smelling product with a fun theme that is associated with each scent. Great conversation starters, great for parties or just whoever may be coming over that night.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenges have been with any startup, time, finding your market, creating buzz, and marketing. Trying to find a way to differentiate ourselves from a huge candle industry. I feel that our branding has come a long way in a great direction.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Besides running a candle business, I work full-time as a chemical operator with swinging shifts which allows half the month off to focus on the candle business.

I also shoot commercials for several local businesses in my area to help boost traffic online and in person.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite memory would be carrying around a huge camcorder that you had to have a VHS tape inserted in and making home movies. We made an x-men movie before it was cool (we were 9 and my cousins were all actors in it).
