Today we’d like to introduce you to Kade Simar, Jack Dardis, Brant Broussard, and Matt Barrack.
Hi Kade, Jack, Brant, and Matt, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
We started out as three friends on a vacation beach house.
Matt, Jack, and Kade were all friends and musicians but the idea of a band had just been a thought for the longest time. After some consideration, we decided to make a band. The beach house we were staying at was named “Wave Runner” so we were fortunate enough to have our name picked out for us already.
After returning home from the beach, we got to work on our new band. While going around to various small venues, we released two originals on Spotify: “Valentine” and “I Don’t Dance”. We eventually recruited Brant as our full-time drummer, and since then have released 3 more songs, with an album scheduled to be released on August 27.
Now, we are mainly focused on our original music and upcoming album. We also are in the process of booking shows for the fall.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a super smooth road, but the challenges have made us stronger. Becoming better musicians and learning to gel together is difficult but extremely rewarding!
We’ve had our fair share of shows with crippling technical difficulties, but learning to overcome those has made us much more confident musicians and showmen.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are primarily musicians, who specialize in live performance.
We’re known locally for our energy and the obvious enjoyment we have when we play live. Probably our favorite accomplishment is having gone from a small acoustic trio into a serious local rock band in a matter of months, and following that releasing original music!
What sets us apart from other bands is our versatility with what music we enjoy playing: we always find clever ways to work songs that aren’t otherwise rock songs into our sets with a twist.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
There is definitely limited growth without taking risks.
We’ve definitely taken risks in playing large venues at the drop of a hat, with little preparation, in order to get our name out there. Sometimes it didn’t work out so well, and sometimes it taught us just how good we could be.
We continue to take lots of last-minute shows and have become extremely versatile in the process, failing every so often but learning from it every time.
