Rising Stars: Meet Kevin Barry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Barry.

Hi Kevin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Nashville about 5 years ago from Michigan, seeking a career in music. I found the band’s earliest members, that would become Borderline Natives, about 2 years into living here. Since I started that project, the opportunities it has presented have been incredible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been easy, but I feel that life presents challenges to ensure you stay true to your primary goal, and some of those decisions aren’t simple or easy but worth the effort in the long run.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Primarily I’m the lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist and principal songwriter in the alternative band Borderline Natives. I’m most proud of the upcoming record we are working on. It’s some of our best work! What sets us apart is our approach, When we bring songs to the table, they are always songs we want to hear instead of what is trending at the time, and I feel that comes off as more genuine as an artist, which is something fans can take with them.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My follow-through and persistence. I feel like 95% of the opportunities we’ve gotten have been accomplished due to the persistence I have to make this band happen; it just goes to show no one wants your project to succeed more than yourself.
