Rising Stars: Meet Kim Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Harris.

Hi Kim, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I really wanted to create something for the sport/activity that many of us love, which is skating. Like many people, I knew the basics of it. But when I got involved with the jam skating community, it took me to a whole new level of fun! I mean, it gave me an environment where I was able to showcase my natural rhythm to a beat within this wheeled art form on a regular basis. And afterwhile, my hobby became a habit to where I was continuously “studying” new moves, motions, styles, wheels, music, etc. You can probably say that I was becoming a connoisseur of skating, haha!

Over time, I realized that I was not alone in this and that many others in the skate community behaved in a similar fashion. I guess after putting hours and hours of work into this passion, you develop a sense of elite preferences. And many want to display the levels of knowledge they have acquired, whether that’s through showmanship or giving advice to others. Hence, the birth of SKATE SNOB!

When you are wearing SKATE SNOB, you are proclaiming your space in the skate community. You are acknowledging the lifestyles of others. And you are welcoming the cohesiveness of each person’s energy, spirit, and style.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
People have been very receptive to SKATE SNOB, and that’s exciting! They generally want to know more about it, or instantly relate to it! So, I think the biggest part of the journey right now is heightening its exposure, so that it grows into an international brand.

Something that’s been helpful is the organic connections I’m building with many great people, some of which “live” within the skate community. There are supporters that believe in this vision, and I am grateful to have them. They’ve been wonderful in introducing me to vending opportunities, sharing their talents, and have just been fun to be around in general.

If I had to ask for something more in acquiring this goal, I think it would be helpful to connect with corporate mentors while I’m transitioning into the retail industry.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Professionally, I specialize in bringing value to business processes and operations. And, I am obtaining my doctoral degree in business administration, with a focus in entrepreneurship & business. So, starting SKATE SNOB seems fitting, haha.

However, I like to say that I’m an advocate for inspiring mentally stimulating, and heart-healthy activities that stem beyond the workplace because you want to have joy in multiple facets of your life. So, in a sense, you can say that I am also helping people discover value within their lifestyles too!

I think people recognize me for being an “active professional” because they become fascinated to hear of my collection of social activities, which comprises of skating, swimming, walking, dancing, and occasionally improv & kickball. It demonstrates that it’s more than just talk. And, when I’m doing public speaking engagements, I often encourage professionals (and burgeoning professionals) to deeply examine their values and core beliefs as they’re screening their next opportunities – because this is how you protect your well-being.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Resilience. Resilience is most important to my success because it allows me to leverage lessons that have come out of distressing situations, and turn those into golden operations.

Enjoyed reading the article; It was very interesting and informative. I look forward to your success in this endeavor. I’ve already purchased some of your merchandise. It’s very comfortable and it washes well. It doesn’t lose its shape like some shirts do after washing. I will be purchasing all of the different colors you offer.
