Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Larue
Lauren, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I moved to nashville when I was 18 to start school at Belmont. While I was there, I was writing constantly and eventually one of my songs made its way to Joe Fisher who had just started a publishing company with Keith Urban. Joe introduced me to Hannah Bayschuck at Prescription Songs, and it was love at first site for both of us. This was how my first publishing deal was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the music industry always has its bumps and twists in the road, but I’ve been lucky to have a team that has supported me fiercely. One thing we struggled with early on was trying to create a niche for me when I loved working in about every genre possible. This was not as common in nashville when I was first starting out, and I had invested a lot of time and energy into the country world. I wanted to continue to be a part of it. But when I had my first #1 in Hip-Hop/Rnb while I was still living in Nashville, people started to see me as strictly a pop/Rnb writer. I’ve had to be really intentional about how I spend my time in each city I work in and eventually we decided to just embrace my genre-restlessness. And it’s actually really ended up paying off.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a songwriter and I specialize in cross genre writing. I lived full time in Nashville for 8 years, then spent some time in LA, and now I travel back and forth constantly. I think working across a variety of genres has kept the writing process fun and interesting for me, and I love the challenge it brings.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in this industry is that surrounding yourself with good people is essential. From having a team that is not only good at what they do, but also care and have integrity, to investing time working with others who uplift each other, it’s so important to have a support system that has mutual respect.
