Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Becker.
Hi Leslie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had such a unique life. From the time I was young I pursued the hard things and went after what I wanted with a vengeance.
Most importantly, I never let anyone put me in a box. When most people say to focus on one thing to be successful, I always found that when I’d pursue only one thing, I was rarely satisfied. So for much of my life, I balanced life as a Broadway actress, a Bestselling Author of The Organized Actor®, and a top Empowerment Coach for creatives and entrepreneurs.
Along my journey, I’ve written some musicals that have gotten produced, and my debut single hit #4 on the AC Billboard/Hot AC charts a few years ago. Now, I’m the creator and host of the Unstoppably Creative Podcast that helps creative minds and entrepreneurs increase their confidence, build momentum and create wildly successful results.
So, yes, my life has not been normal or simple or boring. And it hasn’t always been easy. But as long as what I pursue is rooted in the underlying purpose of my life, then I’m good. That purpose is to empower, entertain and educate others, and to be a source of strength and bravery for the human spirit. That’s it! That’s what I care about.
And even though I’m super proud of the cool things I’ve created in my life, I’m most proud of having helped others do the same.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ha! A smooth road doesn’t really exist when you pursue something artistic or entrepreneurial! Every day is different and you have to wake up each morning and create your day, fight the good fight as you pursue your dreams.
As a younger performer, I suffered from extreme audition anxiety. I often laugh out loud that I ended up making a living as a musical theatre actress and singer! That never should have happened! I just kept working through the nerves day after day, year after year until finally, I wasn’t afraid anymore.
One of the biggest highlights of my life was doing a solo concert of my own songs in Times Square… talk about surreal! If you knew the girl who was terrified to sing in front of people, you’d never believe I’d be singing my own songs in the middle of Manhattan! I still smile when I think about that.
The other thing I struggled with was, that despite having had, what many would consider, a successful acting career, I never really felt that way. In fact, it wasn’t until I left my 30-year career behind, moved to Tennessee, and bought a house with a place where I could display all of my show posters and memorabilia that I have actually been able to say “Wow, I had a really successful career.”
When I was deep in it, I was always looking for the next gig and trying to get a bigger show, a coveted role, or a new Broadway gig, so I rarely felt the success that everyone else saw. Hindsight is 20/20 for sure. But I don’t tend to look back much. The future always has something much more exciting in store!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m in this amazing third chapter of my life.
I’ve left my acting career behind. Moved from NYC to Tennessee for a whole new life and pursue the singer/songwriter thing just for fun, and recently launched the Unstoppably Creative Podcast that brings me a ton of joy! And for the first in my life, I work in the first 8-5 jobs I’ve ever had since 1994 when I declared I would never work for anyone else.
But now I’m a content creator for a major personality here in Tennessee and I love it! I still do private coaching because I passionately love other helping other people succeed. I still write songs. And I still publish my podcast every week! God works in magical ways and my journey from 2020 to now has been nothing less than a miracle. Truly the most divinely guided journey of my life.
What do I specialize in?
1) I give other people permission to pursue their dreams and help them believe they can do it!
2) I can take giant ideas and dreams and break them down into logical, bite-sized, actionable steps
3) I write. I’m absolutely in love with words. Whether a song, a musical, a speech, an email, whatever!
What I’m most proud of is navigating my life with grace and fortitude. It has not been an easy road. But it’s been my road and all of that experience has given me the ability to be a great coach for others.
What sets me apart from others is I will always be the one to say, “I’ll do it!” even if just for the adventure.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned sooooo many things along the way, but I think a few of the biggest things I’ve learned are:
1) Always face reality for what it is. Not what you wish it would be or how it used to be.
2) Think highly enough of yourself to NOT let your ego get in the way
3) Do what you say you’re going to do.
4) Decide what you want. Believe it’s possible. Then go out and do it!
5) Don’t spend your time worrying about what other people think of you, because one day you’ll finally realize they’re not thinking about you at all.
6) You never know where life might lead you. So say yes. Never say never. And just because the world is tumbling down, doesn’t mean it has to tumble down on you.
7) Be kind. Period.
