Rising Stars: Meet Lianna Nguyen of Other

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lianna Nguyen.

Hi Lianna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Lianna Nguyen is the owner of a state-certified trade school located in Florence, KY. Lianna’s Nail Academy helps students obtain nail licensure in Kentucky. After many years in salon management, Lianna recognized a problem in the nail industry and developed a solution: a school focused solely on nails and modern techniques. Lianna has helped many people of all walks of life acquire a skilled trade, such as nails. Many of her former students are now business owners. In the fall of 2023, Lianna saw many ongoing issues in the Kentucky beauty industry. She and a group of advocates fought hard for change; by 2024, Kentucky Senate Bill 14 had passed unanimously in both the House of Representatives and the Senate and was signed into law by the governor in the summer of 2024. This bill was vital for the beauty industry, as it removed systemic barriers that had persisted for years and held many people back from their dreams. By Spring of 2024, Lianna Nguyen was appointed by Governor Andy Beshear to represent private beauty schools on the state board of Cosmetology. Lianna Nguyen and six other board members help navigate the regulations to protect the public and guide licensees on a successful path.
Lianna Nguyen is currently running for Boone County Commissioner, District 2 in the state of Kentucky. She will be running against a former senator in Kentucky this November 2026.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life is never a smooth road; you learn from your challenges. If life were a smooth road, most people would not grow mentally. When you’re facing a struggle in the moment, it can feel like you’re falling apart. But once the challenge and struggle are overcome, you grow from it. There have been many moments in my life when I looked back on my lowest point and saw that it was a blessing in disguise. Many moments allowed me to grow from the pain, and I’m a big believer in positioning oneself to be lucky. On the outside, many people think the other person was lucky, but most don’t realize the many years of grit and determination it took to survive the ups and downs.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Besides being the owner and instructor of Lianna’s Nail Academy. Lianna Nguyen is also a licensed real estate agent in Kentucky and Ohio.
