Rising Stars: Meet Licy Ellenburg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Licy Ellenburg.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Puerto Rican, came to the US when I was four with nothing but a suitcase, my family and only my mom knew English. Fast forward to adulthood, I decided to go into the media industry and started working at Creative Loafing Alternative weekly.

Before covid, I had my own marketing company but there were so many other things I wanted to do that were passions. I didn’t know where to begin. I am a mom first so anything I would do would have to be flexible enough to support my being present. Then Covid hit my marketing business came to a halt, so I decided to take a chance and pursue my dreams.

I went through yoga teacher training, started posting about yoga, and travel, and gave fashion tips. In everything I do want to create the most authentic experience, so you are coming to my page for a completely raw experience. I’m a firm believer everything happens for a reason. If you put in the work and you leave yourself open everything will fall into place effortlessly. I feel grateful for how far I have come.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I came here not knowing English in an environment that wasn’t so accepting of different cultures at the time. I had a company I built and when covid hit it failed. Everything I have I’ve built 100 percent on my own. I have not had anything handed to me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I teach yoga. In group classes as well as private ones, I post about fashion giving tips on what to wear, how to wear it, and shopping on a budget.

I post about travel as well. Highlighting authentic places like local spots and keeping things on a budget. I try to make every experience authentic. I never give a filtered version of myself. I am in my 40s and am able to go upside down on a handstand. I taught myself and have never been able to before. I make goals and I don’t stop until I accomplish them. I want to help others do the same.

What matters most to you?
My family is the most important thing in the world to me next to my faith in God.
