Rising Stars: Meet Lynda Larson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynda Larson.

Hi Lynda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’m a floral designer by trade I love natural elements and have always used feathers in my designs, but it wasn’t until Pheasant hunting behind my English Springer, Doc, that I became more appreciative of the feathers I had been using. I wanted to pay tribute to the hunt, my dog and the beautiful birds of our world. I thought what most people would throw away ( the feathers) should be shared and cherished so I started creating feather bow ties, jewelry and other fashion accessories. That was about 5 years ago and I’ve been designing feathery fashion accessories ever since.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s been a huge learning curve. I’m self-taught without any learning resources and trial and error was how I perfected my process.  Feathers are delicate and not very forgiving so I’m always learning as I develop my line. When people see my designs I want them to appreciate the beauty that I see in each feather that I use, they are truly gifts from nature that we should cherish!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the owner and creator of Bird Dog Studios, a feather fashion accessory company.  I hope you think my designs are unique, as each feather I use are different. I’ve had the opportunity to create designs for Stevie Nicks, Bruno Mars, Kasey Musgraves and others. I’m super proud of how I’ve grown my company.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting?
Step out of your box! Find something that speaks to you, something you’re passionate about and you will shine!
