Rising Stars: Meet Lynn Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Young.

Hi Lynn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was in middle school, I picked up a guitar for the first and began learning chords and singing songs along with it. I quickly became addicted to making music and expressing my thoughts and feelings this way and began writing my own songs shortly after. Years later, after being a part of church bands and writing songs in my own time, I decided to finally do something with them. I put myself out there and made connections on my own with the help of my husband and found an incredible producer who helped us get our start. Since then, we haven’t stopped! I am still making music, making connections, and growing as an artist.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path I have chosen as an artist has not always been easy. There has been a certain grace in it knowing in my heart that I’m doing what I’m supposed to, but that doesn’t mean some days are harder than others. Sometimes I deal with the heavyweight of wondering if I’m ever going to get anywhere doing what I love. There have been times I’ve heard remarks about my music and what I’m doing that weren’t supportive at all from the people in my life who are supposed to support me no matter me what. Also, making music is expensive. And sometimes, the financial toll can be stressful. But when you know you’ve made something good that does catch someone’s attention, it’s worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an independent artist in the indie and pop genres. Some of my biggest influences in my music so far have been Maggie Rogers, Dagny, and Jacob Early. I am proud of my music so far and how it’s growing along with me. I come from a religious background and a lot of that is tied into my music but not in a way that would categorize me as such which is something I’m proud of. I love the idea of being who I am in my songwriting but also still relatable to various-minded types of people.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve learned that there is always a way! If something gets in your way, even if it’s the world shutting down, there is always a way for creatives to get through to their audience and connect with them. You just have to think outside of the box.
