Rising Stars: Meet Mary Vaughan, Lmt of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Vaughan, Lmt

Hi Mary, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a Nashville-native, born and raised. I love calling this city home. I also have loved getting to be a part of the healing spaces in town, it’s a whole new aspect of Nashville that is vibrant and growing.
My journey into the bodywork field started in 2023 when I began attending Cumberland Institute of Holistic Therapies in Brentwood, TN. However, before I even started massage therapy school, I was on a healing journey. After two years of talk therapy, my therapist suggested I explore receiving a massage to help with my mind-body connection. That first 60-minute massage changed my life, and I realized how powerful safe, compassionate touch is. I had no idea how separated from my physical self I was at that time. Massage therapy changed my life and helped me develop presence and ease in my body, mind, and emotions. Again, I want to emphasize the incredible power of touch, especially in our digital age. I believe what I do to be a sacred calling, and I feel more aligned in this career than I ever have before. Everyone deserves to feel good in their body.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The hardest part for me in this season has been finding balance in my own life. If I don’t take really good care of my body, my back hurts or I feel burnt out and my sessions don’t feel joyful and easy. You can’t pour from an empty cup! I still attend therapy, receive bodywork and energy work regularly, and do yoga most days to be able to thrive in this career.

Holding space for others forces me to confront my own obstacles daily. It’s a practice! The hardest part is caring for my own mental, physical, and emotional well-being so that I can be there for others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I present what I do as Holistic Massage Therapy. I’m focused on my client as a WHOLE person, their physical, emotional, and energetic wellbeing.

I like to say that I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and an Integrative Bodyworker. My integrative approach means that my sessions combine various energetic and somatic techniques, making each session unique and different from the last. It’s a very custom and collaborative experience for my clients.

I’m known for integrating energetic healing along with manual therapy techniques. I am a Reiki Practitioner and have studied multiple energetic healing modalities. When I work with clients on the table, it’s all within this framework of belief that we as humans are energetic beings, everything is interconnected, and every body has a true nature of health and wholeness. My goal is to support clients at any stage of their healing journey. Some of the massage therapy modalities I use in sessions are Swedish and Advanced Swedish massage, Acupressure, Craniosacral Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Myofascial Release Techniques. All of these modalities are intuitively combined with the goal of helping clients find ease, balance and health in their body, mind and spirit.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I have a several clients who have been in talk therapy for a while and feel stuck, and need something new. Experiencing bodywork can help with the somatic aspect of emotional and trauma processing. Experiencing emotional releases is certainly not required from sessions but I have found in my practce that the body really does “keep the score” and sometimes giving space to process and release trauma can be the catalyst to even deeper levels of health and wholeness.
Many of my clients come away from sessions with improved sleep, better digestion, mental resilience and focus, less anxiety, as well as muscular pain/tension relief and relaxation.
Holistic Massage Therapy can benefit so many things, including:
Headaches/Migraines
Back pain
allergies and sinus issues
Chronic stress
Trauma
anxiety, and depression
Muscular Injury
Tightness and tension
Digestion
Sleep
and so much more.
My practice is located inside The Estuary, right down the street from Centennial Park.
