Rising Stars: Meet Max Soderberg of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Soderberg.

Max, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Omaha Nebraska with a very rare condition known as hypo plastic left heart syndrome in 2005. I had to undergo a total of 3 heart surgeries from birth until I was 3 years old. In the early stages of my life I quickly connected with music. I found drumming to be my outlet of expression. From the minute I got home from school, until it was time for bed I was in my room playing drums. It was all I knew. By the time I was in the 7th grade I had made music my whole personality. That fall I fell extremely ill and completely lost my hearing in my right ear out of nowhere. Thinking it would return after my sickness subsided, we tried many different antibiotics and treatments to make it better. Unfortunately, that December after a hearing test I was told that the hearing in my right ear would never return. The deafening loud whooshing of waves that ring in my ear would be permanent. I felt like my whole world collapsed in front of my eyes. I felt so lost. Music held me close through all of the hard times overcoming my heart battles, and now I was single sided. Although everyday I wanted to give up, I kept playing and playing. That was all I knew. By the time I was a senior I was figuring out what my steps were after high school. We started applying for colleges where I could pursue music. During that process I met an artist out of Omaha Nebraska named Carver Jones. We jammed together and instantly clicked. He had a gig in California right around the corner and asked if I would fly out with him to play. I did without any hesitation. From there on we traveled to play places like New York, Europe, and many states around the U.S. Carver signed a deal with Concord in March of 2025. That led us to move out to Nashville where we would write and record music everyday. This past fall, we went on our first big sold out tour as the opener for the artist called 54 ultra. Together carver and I got to play famous venues such as House of Blues, The Roxy, The Observatory, and The Mohawk in Austin Texas to name a few. Carver and I look forward to returning to Omaha to play MAHA music festival with Wetleg and Omaha band Bright Eyes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I’ve had many emotional struggles while dealing with my heart condition and hearing loss. It’s been a rocky road but music has always been by my side to help me overcome these life changing obstacles.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a touring drummer and recording artist. I am most proud when I get to share the music that my best friend Carver and I make in front of an audience. That is the biggest reward and the best feeling in the world. What sets me apart from others is my drive and determination to always find a way. My past has drastically shaped my outlook on life and my will to always find a way to achieve my goals.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Nashville is the community and opportunity. There is always something to go to whether that is an open jam or writer’s round. You can always meet new people and discover new up and coming artists. You never know where those connections can lead you!
