Rising Stars: Meet Mia Montero of Montero Hat Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Montero.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I’m Mia Montero!

Back in college, I worked at a hat store to save up enough money to move to Nashville. While I was there, I completely fell in love with hats and the creativity behind them. That passion eventually led me to start my own hat company in 2022.
After I was in Nashville for a year, I moved back home to Louisiana to serve as a full-time worship leader while making custom hats on the side. What started as a side business quickly grew into something bigger, and this year I officially opened my own hat shop!

I’ve had the honor of creating hats for artists like Lauren Daigle, Franni Cash, Jamie MacDonald, and Charity Gayle. One of my favorite parts of this journey has been connecting with and creating for incredible women in the music industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been such a fun journey so far! I won’t say it’s been smooth or easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding.

If it were up to me, I would’ve gone all in on hats from day one. But reality has a way of keeping you grounded—bills, rent, and life still have to be paid. So for now, I continue working full-time while growing my hat business on the side.
Honestly, that’s made me appreciate every order, every customer, and every opportunity even more. Watching something that started as a passion slowly grow into a real business has been so exciting, and opening my own shop this year has been a dream come true.

I’m taking it one step at a time, trusting God’s timing through every season. My prayer is that one day making hats will become my full-time career, but until then, I’m grateful for every chance I get to create and be a small part of someone’s story through a custom hat.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
One thing that really sets me apart is that I’m also a Christian singer. My faith is at the center of everything I do, and I love being able to weave my music and my hat company together in a way that points people back to Christ. Whether I’m leading worship, writing music, or creating a custom hat, my goal is the same—to use the gifts God has given me to encourage others and glorify Him.

One of my biggest dreams is to see my hats featured in movies, TV shows, music videos, and on stage. I love the idea of helping tell a story through fashion and creating pieces that become part of a character’s identity.
So if you’re a costume designer, stylist, wardrobe coordinator, or someone in the film or entertainment industry reading this, I’d love to connect! Let’s create something unforgettable together.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is dressing up and playing pretend. Looking back, it’s kind of funny because in so many of my childhood pictures, I’m wearing a hat! I guess my love for hats started long before I ever realized it. Even as a kid, I loved expressing myself through what I wore and using my imagination to create different characters and stories. It’s funny how those little moments ended up becoming such a big part of who I am today.
