Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Reddick-Smith.
Hi Mia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Mia Reddick-Smith. I’m a licensed Aesthetician, Yoga Instructor and owner of SunGlo Aesthetics & Wellness located in the Franklin Tennessee area. At SunGlo, we take a holistic approach to your wellness journey by coaching and focusing on finding that natural Glo through our customized corrective skincare treatments and private/small group Yoga sessions. No matter where you are in your skincare journey or Yoga practice, SunGlo Aesthetics is here to support you in getting the inside-out GLO up you deserve.
Long before SunGlo Aesthetics, I was on my own journey to a more healthy lifestyle and that included skin. During COVID, I really dug in deep with Yoga and became a Yoga Instructor. But during one of my brainstorming talks with my sister, we started talking about skincare and becoming an Aesthetician. I looked at the program some years ago but timing options for classes were not suitable with my work hours. But this time was different. There was a part time program and at that point, I just decided to go for it. One thing I learned during those COVID years was to just take the leap and things will line up. So I enrolled in the program and completed it, took the state exam and became a licensed Aesthetician.
The Aesthetics field can be intimidating because a lot of what we see on social media are women who are not of mature age or in a professional setting. So I sought to change that. I meet so many women in their 40s, 50s and even 60s who never focused on themselves or their skincare. So I decided that I would be an advocate and partner to those like me who discovered that skincare is more than a facial treatment that we get on our birthdays or anniversaries. Its more about taking care of yourself and being the best version of yourself.
My practice is called SunGlo for a reason. I feel everyone woman deserves to GLO no matter where they are in life. And if I can give them a few minutes of luxury so they can have a GREAT rest of the day, then my job has been done.
At SunGlo, its more than just a facial treatment or luxury service. We create an upscale Experience while also offering corrective skin services. I believe that Aestheticians should empower clients, not intimidate them. I do that by creating one GLO up at a time. Good skin does not have to be some complicated skincare routine or a cabinet full of products. We work together as partners to find the best skincare solution to reach the goals you desire. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely not been a smooth one. Going back to school required me to spend time away from home where I had to drive from SpringHill to Murfreesboro 4 days a week, after working and taking care of my son. But my husband partnered with me on making sure things around the house were taken care of. Once I graduated and decided to go solo, there were financial sacrifices we made so I could start my business. But my husband is independent and understood the sacrifices to be made and supported me every step of the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Licensed Aesthetician in the Franklin, TN area that focuses on overall healthy skin by offering corrective skincare treatments. I see clients that struggle with acne, hyperpigmentation, hormonal skin issues. But I also see clients that want to maintain their healthy skin barrier. I am most proud of myself for taking this leap of faith, enrolling in the Aesthetics course, taking the state exam and now owning an Aesthetics business. Really just investing in myself and believing that I have something to offer that brightens someone’s day and adds value to their life.
What sets me a part from others is I have been where a lot of working women and moms are right now. Where they do not take time for themselves or they have other goals outside of working and taking care of the kids. Or they never really invested in themselves by taking care of their skin or learning how to do that. I am so able to relate to those points in life and strive to give each client a piece of skin luxury where they can then go back into the world confident and less stressed.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the skincare industry continuing to grow. Especially with social media. Women (and men) will always want great skin, people will always have skin issues and need help. So nothing will be able to replace the hands on touch of a professional Aesthetician. With social media, there are a lot of influencers promoting skincare products and routines. However, Aestheticians are trained in this specialty service and we continue with more training after graduation. That training is necessary as new products are constantly launching and technology continues to advance. But with the help of social media, Aestheticians are able to see clients not just in the studio but also virtually by consulting and making skincare product and home care routine recommendations. Also, the aging population is now more aware of the opportunities available to sustain healthy glowing skin and that group is also more engaged than ever in looking out for their own health. And that includes their skincare. So the industry will continue to expand as the future outlook is still very promising.
