Rising Stars: Meet Mike Ewing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Ewing.

Hi Mike, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I’m a late 80s baby native of Nashville. My musical journey started when I was about 14 yrs. old. I began as a church musician playing a little organ here, a little drums there. I was so intrigued with how the music was designed, how it sounded, and just the possibilities of it all. The passion grew, right into my college years. I found myself studying, at the time, the greats like Darkchild, Neptunes, Timbaland, etc…In 2010 my roommates talked me into a Beat Battle, which I ended up winning the whole competition. At that point what I thought was a small dream, became a promising passion. From there, I co-produced my first placement as a professional with MMG (Maybach Music Group). From there, I continued on the “Beat Battle” road, won some more, and ended up co-producing on “Just A Little” for Gladys Knight, which was such a monumental and inspirational moment. During that time, I started working more with songwriters and artists, which opened up more placements and opened up my creative mind and creative approach. I continued sharpening the skills and sharpening my ear, and I landed placements with Omarion, Danileigh, Jesse Murph, Isabel Merced, and more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road in the industry is just like Nashville roads in the winter…fulllll of potholes. From dealing to artists who are in it one day, then out the next, then execs and A&R’s who sometimes have the greatest intentions but not the best execution of those ideas/plans. At the end of the day, the hiccups and obstacles truly help build the strength to last in this industry.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Music Producer who loves creating intense vibes, whether it’s a hype party record or a redemption song. I guess I’m known for my unique drum patterns and polarizing melodies. It really geeks me when I playback tracks and the looks of surprise, shock, and appreciation, all overcomes the listener at once.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’m a listener who listens to understand and I always present myself true and honest to everyone I come across. I love positive energies in every environment even if it doesn’t seem present.
