Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Hutchison.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a visual, studio artist first and foremost, who creates fine art of all mediums and varieties.
As a freelance artist, I have participated in and displayed in showcases, festivals and galleries within the Arkansas and Dallas art communities.
Since my adolescents, I have spent many years under the mentorship of a local Arkansas studio, Studio 7. My mentors there have guided me into becoming the artist I am to this very day.
Currently, I pride myself in being a mother to my beautiful son, a wife to my life partner and a part-time sales representative at my day job-
-All while balancing being a small business owner and full-time fine art creative.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Phew! It has been anything BUT a smooth ride-but I would not change that fact for anything. Because of the many obstacles I have faced; I have become the creative I am today.
From moving to a big city, Dallas, Texas, to finding my way back to Arkansas, I have found myself in many literal and metaphorical pitfalls. Mentally, physically and especially artistically.
During my time in Dallas, I promoted my art and artist brand-and it was never an easy ride to maneuver a big city lifestyle while being a small art business and a full time employee at a luxury floral company.
One of my biggest obstacles at the time, and I still grapple with to this day, is managing my mental health. Due to childhood trauma, I struggle with a diagnosed learning disability that has hindered my mental growth since I was a small child.
At the time in Dallas, I had a lot of huge life shifts where I found myself living alone for the very first time along the same time the pandemic hit in 2020. I found it extremely difficult to see positively and stay hopeful for a future. This was by far the most difficult time in my life as I found myself completely heartbroken, uncertain and isolated. I struggled most with suicidal ideations and self harm at this particular time all the way until 2023. However, I somehow found the ability to stay active and motivated in creating a number of art pieces, along with garnering an active presence on social media.
Now at 31, I feel the reward of having overcome a lot of these obstacles. I now confidently manage the way my brain works and how it takes in information along with my emotional stability. I now carry knowledge and strength in my artistic abilities, expression and self-worth.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I take all facets of my chaotic realities and alter them within my art pieces using color and light.
Throughout each moment in my life, I create art with the inspirations and motivations that I receive from each unique experience.
Without art; I feel utterly lost.
The thing I am most proud of is, even in the lowest time of my life, I was able to find the ability to survive mentally by harnessing my artistic expression as a means to live long enough to become the strong woman, loving mother and partner and self-motivated artist I am today.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My mental health. When my mental health is intact; I am able to be everything and anything else I currently am and will ever dream to be.
