Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Douglas
Monica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My photography journey started after graduating high school. I fell in love with making people feel good about themselves. It’s a different type of warmth when you see people discover a beauty in themselves they’ve never seen before. For years I’ve captured special moments like familial love, engagements and self-empowement. Then the pandemic hit, and it was difficult to connect in the way I usually do.
That’s when I discovered a new love in product photography! I’ve experimented with clothes, skincare, jewelry, and most recently food. Now I’m exploring the niche of food while still keeping true to my love for portraits.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a creative, we are our worst enemy. There are always thoughts of whether your art is good enough, or worth sharing. It’s an endless battle to silence my inner critic so I can create my vision. Over the last two years, I’ve found a beautiful support system of creatives that has uplifted me. We check in with each other regularly, invite each other to events, and share work to critique. I’m very thankful for them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photography specializing in product photography and portraits. I’ve recently transitioned into the food niche of product photography. I love making social media content for showcasing the product or vibrant packaging. My work is filled with sharp vibrant colors.
What does success mean to you?
Living my life in a fulfilling and meaningful way is true success to me. I am happy when I can create freely, love freely, and bring some type of joy to the world. If I can live the rest of my life like that, then I think I’d be the most successful person in the world.
