Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Washington.
Hi Morgan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Well, I am originally from Jackson, TN. I have lived in the Middle TN area for 10 years. I would like to say I began at a young age. My mother and grandmother always instilled in me to look presentable. Dressing up for church was a big deal in my house. I began to take my fashion more seriously around high school and going into my first year of college. Going to college events at MTSU have me reasons to get all dolled up every week. Haha. I studied PR and Marketing at MTSU. Around 2013, I started to intern for a PR company. I was the image consultant for the clients there. I knew I wanted to do something that allowed me to be creative with colors so image consulting/wardrobe styling is the direction I took. After that, I started to promote my work to gain my own clients as a freelance stylist in 2016. I then decided to get a fashion degree in the business of fashion. My plan for the business is to work in retail, supply chain, and manufacturing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say my biggest struggle along the way was understanding the business. I started an online store around 2018. With it being my first time, I came across several mistakes. I’m thankful for the mistakes because it taught me my dos and don’ts.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in wardrobe styling, I also have my own retail store, which I am currently rebranding. I also began singing at a young age in church but I do not take my singing as seriously as my fashions.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is to find at least someone that works in the industry that you’re wanting to me successful in. Although we have different paths, they are able to tell you some of the dos and don’ts in the business. However, experience is your best teacher by all means. What has worked for me is connecting with business-minded and creative individuals over the years.
