Rising Stars: Meet Nashgirl Sk8 of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nashgirl Sk8.

Hi Nashgirl Sk8, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognized a growing need for community and connection. We both discovered a passion for skating but quickly realized that we didn’t know many other girls who skated. That summer, we began meeting weekly at Crockett Park in Brentwood, each time inviting a new friend to join us and learn. What started as a simple way to connect soon evolved into Nashgirl Sk8.

Since then, NGS has opened the door to incredible opportunities, from participating in music videos to collaborating with brands to attending major events. However, the most rewarding aspect of our journey has been empowering girls to overcome their fears and step onto a skateboard for the first time. Witnessing the joy on their faces when they drop in, land a trick, or form lasting friendships is truly the heart of what we do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the early days, we experienced significant growth, fueled in part by the unique circumstances of COVID, when many people had more time to explore new interests and when skateboarding saw a surge in popularity. Now over four years later, we’ve seen the natural ebb and flow of community members as some transition to new hobbies or relocate after college. Despite these shifts, we remain committed to evolving with our audience, continuously finding fresh and creative ways to engage new folks as we as individuals grow alongside NGS.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Nashgirl Sk8, we’re dedicated to creating a welcoming, judgment-free space where girls feel empowered to skate and grow their confidence on and off the board. We host sessions throughout Nashville and the surrounding areas, anywhere from Cornelia Fort Airpark in East Nashville to Old Fort Skatepark in Murfreesboro, bringing together skaters of all skill levels.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
