Rising Stars: Meet Nick Bosse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Bosse.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I was raised in a musical family. I started playing piano at age ten, but once I picked up a guitar at age 12, I left the keys behind. The first song I learned to play was “A Boy Named Sue” by Johnny Cash because my father would only let me cuss if I was singing the lyrics of a song. After high school, my family encouraged me to start performing in local bars and small music venues for extra money. It surprised me that people were eager to hear the old country classics I was covering. Fast forward to today, I’m still covering the songs of my heroes while focusing on writing songs that reflect the influences I’ve had throughout my musical career.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No musician’s road is smooth, especially in country music which has changed so much from the country music that I grew up with. The pandemic was a challenge for all musicians forcing us to find alternative ways to reach our audiences. I’d like to think that I stayed busy through the pandemic; I utilized the time to focus on writing more songs and networking with other musicians via social media. I look at everything as a learning experience. I would say that the quarantine helped teach me new ways to reach my fans and expand my local music community.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a country singer with a soulful blues voice. I often have people adamantly comment that they are ‘not country music fans’ but then become loyal followers I repeatedly see in the crowd. I love that I’ve introduced someone to a genre of music they never connected with or appreciated before catching one of my sets.

We’d loved to hear about any fond memories you have from growing up?
I really loved riding quads through the woods of Maine with my dad when I was a young boy. The inspiration for the cover art of my new EP comes from the pine trees reflecting off the water at our family cabin. Not a year of my life had passed when I didn’t return to my childhood  ‘happy place.’

We’ve seen Nick play several times and each was a jewel. He effortlessly blends the soul of old CW with his own work. He has a song about a neighbor of his, and each time I hear it, it brings a tear.
