Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Casey.
Hi Nick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started playing country music when I was 16 years old. A high school friend and I formed an acoustic duo. We played every bar and coffee shop we could. Since then, I’ve been playing all over the North East for the last thirteen years. In that time, my band and I have put out three albums and opened for a handful of national country acts.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been the easiest road. I think in the world of social media, it’s hard to not fall into the comparison trap. Basing your success off of what your friends are doing. I think being on the go constantly, playing shows on the weekend, takes a toll physically. Traveling long distances constantly, can be a lot. In the end though, I wouldn’t want to do anything else.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I write and perform original country music. My style is influenced more by the older sounds of the genre. I’ve always been a big Johnny Cash fan. I’m most proud of the people I meet at shows who I don’t know, who found me through my albums. Hearing someone say they related to a certain song or just enjoy the music, and then they come out to a show, is what I’m most proud of.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
When I get a chance to read, I like to read a lot of music autobiographies and books about the music business. As far as podcasts, I listen to a lot of podcasts while driving to shows. The majority of them are interviews with other artists and songwriters I love. All those resources keep me encouraged and give me the motivation to keep going.
