Rising Stars: Meet Peyton Mclain of Nashville and surrounding areas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peyton Mclain

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was never a makeup girl in highschool and never felt like “the pretty girl,” so I barely wore any makeup, at least nothing more than eyeliner and some powder foundation. Skip forward to 19/20 years old and I waxed my eyebrows and the wax ripped up more hair than I wanted (LOL), so I called my sister freaking out because I always had pretty good eyebrows and she basically told me to calm down and she went to Walmart and got me a brow pomade and brow brush so I could fill in my eyebrows. Since then I was basically a full face girly and loved it. My first faces of makeup, other than myself, was when I was in my friends wedding and did all the bridesmaids makeup and touched up the brides in 2017. I then began doing prom and homecoming makeup in my small town out of my moms beauty salon. I went to esthetician school in 2019 and got licensed during Covid of 2020. I love making girls and women feel beautiful and see the joy on their faces at final reveal. Now I service middle Tennessee and Georgia.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In 2020 I moved to NY, got married, and had a baby so my makeup career was on pause for roughly 2 years and I missed it so much. As a military spouse it is hard every move to get your name back out to build clientele. So once life settled a bit and I moved again I reached out to local salons in Columbus, GA (where I currently live) and the best salon hired me as their makeup artist to help get my name out there.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional luxury makeup artist specializing in all glam, but have a love for soft glam. Learning my niche really helped my business because so many girls loved my style. I pride myself in the experience I give my clients! a lot of my clients tend to be nervous when they arrive and I really like to make them feel comfortable. I want my clients to leave feeling like they just spent 2 hours with their best friend. I am a perfectionist and I refuse to compromise my craft for the sake of time… can I do makeup in 30 minutes? Yes! But I love getting to know my clients and making sure everything is perfect for them. It is more than just getting your makeup done, it is how you feel in the process- heard, respected, confident! I want my girls to talk about me in the best way and that is giving them an experience to remember. That is what I believe sets me apart from others. My clients mean the absolute world to me, they are the only reason I am where I am.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In my earlier days of doing others makeup I had a friend reach out to do editorial makeup for a photoshoot she was doing. I was so nervous because I had never done anything editorial. It was a learning experience and it turned out really well.
