Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Mitchell
Rodney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Rodney Mitchell–the owner of the Rodney Mitchel Salon. In the past three decades, I have opened six successful salons through Middle Tennessee. In that time, I have had the good fortune to work with some of country music’s hottest stars, leading fashion designers, national political leaders and award winning actors. And while I take an enormous amount of pride in my professional accomplishments, I am also equally proud of of the millions of dollars my team and i have raised for various Tennessee charities.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding balance is my life is one of the biggest challenges I face. Between my salons, my hospitality work, my family, and my personal life, I do struggle to maintain balance. It is important to take time for yourself. Like most business owners, I tend to overdo. Luckily, I have the voice of my mother in the back of my head telling me to slow down. I don’t always listen. But I should.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to my acting as the owner of The Rodney Mitchell Salon, I also work as a manager of one of Nashville’s most popular find dining restaurants. I also am the executive director of memberships for The Southern Turf Club, one of the most exclusive private clubs in Nashville. I am quite proud for taking my first small six chair salon into a multimillion dollar salon in the heart of Music Row. It hasn’t always been easy. There have been countless sleepless nights and a lot of hard work. But it has been so worth it. And I have met the greatest people along the way.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
There are so many things in this town to love. The Southern hospitality, the music, the locally owned stores and restaurants. Like most locals, it’s the traffic and the lack of a transportation system I’d most like to see change. I have so many clients and staff members who live over an hour away and having a transportation system would help them tremendously.
