Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruta Bauzaite.
Hi Ruta, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I founded the Alchemist Studio in the midst of my self-love journey. As I reflected on my early 20’s I realized I rarely took care of my body, mind, and soul. I truly didn’t know how to slow down but as I approached my 30s I wanted to learn how to respect my body, how to love my body, and how to cherish my body.
With those ideas, I started creating rituals for myself. To me, there is nothing more precious and beneficial than self-care. Everything you do revolves around how you feel and that is where it all started. I wanted to start creating candles that ease your self-love journey. There is nothing better than lighting a candle as you sing and dance, as you take a bath, or as you unwind from the day by laying on a yoga mat.
A lot of my inspiration for this brand comes from a deep interest in simple living and a passion for sustainability. I come from a small European town where we had very little but everything we did have was handmade, natural, and high quality because it was made with love by people who cared. I have taken a huge step towards recreating a lot of that lifestyle in my present life and all the candles that I make stem from that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Is any business a smooth road? I don’t believe so.
For me specifically, there have been many highs and lows. I am a one-person operation so it can get overwhelming to research, source, design, create, market, and ship every candle out myself but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I want always to have a massive personal touch to everything that comes out of my studio.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in organic and luxury candles. A sustainable and nontoxic lifestyle is very important to me so I make sure to incorporate that into every step of the candle-making process. Every candle I hand-make is crafted from only the highest quality elements. Each batch is very small and unique. I love to be creative and incorporate a new design every time so I rarely create the same candle more than once.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I deeply care about the planet and the people around me. This company stemmed from my creating a product for myself and wanting to share it with others who are like-minded. I am not here to become a millionaire. I just want people around me to have a safe alternative to other products on the market that are so heavily incorporated into our lives.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Nashville has so much diversity when it comes to food, music, and people.
What I like the least is the traffic!
