Rising Stars: Meet Samantha Tieger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Tieger.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a pop artist and songwriter from Cincinnati, Ohio. I started writing, recording, and performing at coffee shops, restaurants, and bars when I was 15. I spent weeknights and weekends going to see singer-songwriters like Brandi Carlile and Ingrid Michaelson at small venues.

I even saw 16-year-old Taylor Swift perform one of her early shows at a Walmart! I went to Duke University and majored in romance languages (another passion of mine), and continued to play shows in Durham and Chapel Hill. I moved to Nashville in 2020 and started reaching out to producers in town to collaborate, and signed a publishing deal with The Bus Music/Universal Music Publishing last year, which was an absolute dream come true.

I’ve been lucky to have my songs featured in American Songwriter, Earmilk, and Nashville Noise, and on television shows on CBS, The CW, and MTV.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t! I used to feel like I was running in circles. It took a lot of time to understand what steps I needed to take to achieve my goals as an artist and songwriter. There was a quote I read that said something along the lines of “If you’re seeing that someone out there is living the life you’re dreaming about, then you can make it happen too.”

When I moved to town, I reached out to a couple of artists on my dream career path, and they were kind enough to jump on a call and talk to me about their journey!

This is one of the most amazing things about Nashville to me — I’ve found that creatives here genuinely want to help and support each other’s careers. In addition to learning from other artists, I’ve found my path by working with an amazing team that shares my vision so perfectly.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m in sessions with producers, songwriters, and artists about 4 days a week, and I’m constantly in awe of the people I get to create with. I love singing and writing all different styles of pop music from chill to dark to upbeat!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Enjoy the journey! Even when progress feels slow, small steps do truly add up to big results.

I love using my “one line a day” journal. Each page includes an entry for five years in a row. It’s such a cool way to see the progress from year to year!
