Rising Stars: Meet Stacy Dani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Dani.

Hi Stacy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My dad got me my first guitar when I was about 10. I would hide out in my room and play music late at night. The thought of anyone hearing me was TERRIFYING.

I started writing “songs” around 13, and it was very therapeutic for me. I never had dreams of being a songwriter or star, I just loved doing it and it helped me through some rough times. 99% of my songs are sad so… that makes sense. Around 20 years old I started to take it more seriously and would write songs with a little more purpose and intention. I began posting videos and showing my friends.

I later moved to LA and met some really inspiring people, and just recently moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting full time! While my confidence has definitely grown as far as my music, I still feel like a little kid hiding in my room at times. I like to show people the final product, rather than the process, but I am learning to open up.

Co-writing has been very helpful with that, and is literally my favorite thing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anyone trying to make it in the music business will tell you it is a STRUGGLE. There are so many aspects to it, the business side, the songwriting, the producing, the “image”.

It can all be very difficult, but I am just trying to enjoy the journey and stay true to myself… even if that means making 20 different songs in 20 different genres.

I am nowhere near where I want to be, but I do genuinely love making music, so regardless of what happens, I know I’ll have music in my life forever.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m currently working on becoming a better songwriter and co-writer, for not just my own songs, but others’ as well. The move to Nashville has been very helpful with that!

Another thing I am passionate about is curating shows and bringing people together. I book and curate a show called “Artist’s Brew” in Ventura, California which has been going on for over 6 years, and it is my baby. It’s basically a dope art show with local artists and live music. More importantly, it is such a beautiful community of people that love and support each other.

I also curate “LowerDeck Sessions” alongside my old roomie, Ryan Wood. It’s an artist showcase that started in LA and is now in Nashville as well. It started out with 10 of my close friends playing tunes for each other on our deck and has now grown into something that I couldn’t have dreamed of.

I get to meet so many amazing musicians through it. Every time we have a show, I wake up the next morning on such a high because it fulfills me so much to witness such talented people come together in such a pure way.

I like to think what sets me apart from others is my ability to bring people together. If I can’t book a show, hell… I’ll put one together myself and invite everyone I know!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is happiness within yourself, and the capacity to share it with others.

Easier said than done! I have a constant internal battle with what I think others may deem successful, and what success is to me.

Truth is, I have a high standard for myself, and I’m not there yet, but I just have to remember that life is about having fun and sharing those moments with people you love.
