Rising Stars: Meet Talasia Gordon of Atlantic City, New Jersey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Talasia Gordon

Talasia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I’m a natural-born singer whose musical journey began as a young girl accompanying my mother to the studio, where she frequently recorded original music. After years of singing in Abundant Life Worship Center’s Choir, I was inspired to write my own music, despite concerns that the unconventional lyrical and melodic style might not fit the traditional gospel genre. However, my dedication to the craft led me to develop a unique sound that strategically incorporates thought-provoking messages, helping nonbelievers and fellow Christians alike strengthen their connection to God. My prayer is that my music can be a beacon of hope, love, and peace in a chaotic world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not at all. When I first came out, my music wasn’t really accepted as “gospel” because it wasn’t traditional. I wasn’t asked to be on any local events that my peers were on locally. However, I understood the plan for my life and so I kept at it, staying true to who I was. Before I knew, it I created a demand for what was deemed “different”. Years later, the room has expanded for the type of music I love to do and has brought me to winning awards and even being considered for a Grammy Nomination. Staying true to who I knew God made me to be, no matter the opposition was hard and lonely at times but so worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a national recording gospel artist out of New Jersey. I’m a writer, co producer of my music and a visionary of my brand. I am most proud of my ever growing relationship with God throughout my life and journey which wasn’t always easy to stick to dedication wise. It has shaped who I am as a woman, artist, creative and a believer. What sets me apart is that I’m simply me. Nobody can do me better than I can. That’s my superpower. My failures have become my daily lessons. My shortcomings have become my goals of self improvement. And my weaknesses have become Gods opportunities to show himself strong through me. My hearts desires is God’s Will.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
God. First and foremost. He’s who I’m singing about. He’s the reason I’m better. My life revolves around making sure that everyone hears about His goodness and wants to get to know Him for themselves.

I started my music journey with Quinten Showell. He believed in what I seen for myself musically and helped me develop it early on. Most of my original songs were cowrote/produced by him. Along the way my brother Donald “Junebug” Rowell joined us and before I knew, it we were constantly up until 3 a.m. creating at his house for years before I ever put a song out. I will always honor them. They are some of best to ever do it.

My home church that allowed me the space and opportunity early in my music career. Abundant Life Worship Center Church in Egg Harbor City, NJ. My spiritual parents, Bishop John R. Gandy and First Lady Gandy believed, supported and guided me from the very beginning. I was mentored spiritually and musically. After years of writing, singing BGVs on albums and my own studying, I felt confident enough to finally put my own music out as an artist.

My friends and family who have always been so supportive. They are my home. They calm my nerves. They pray with and for me. They are my village.

My hometown Gospel radio station WEHA 88.7. They were the first to play my music on the radio, give me singing opportunities opening up for Artist such as, “Maurette Brown Clark”. They’ve also granted me the privilege to be interviewed on their platform.

I have so many friends in the industry who look out for me. We truly support each other and that has also contributed to having access to the spaces I’ve been in. They talk me up in rooms I’m not in and i’m truly grateful to have people who I love and admire in real life that just so happen to do music too.

My amazing team that I now have! Shoutout to my D. Nicole, Alex and Maya! They really go above and beyond expectations to make sure I’m represented, protected, prayed for and prepared. I have been able to soar because of them. God has really blessed me.
