Today we’d like to introduce you to Torriyah Falana.
Hi Torriyah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my transition journey and drag career in November of 2021. I began at 19 years old where I was a trans baby and bedroom queen in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now I’m 24 years old and I’m living out my showgirl trantasy in Nashville, Tennessee. It has been nearly 5 years now, and I’m still blossoming every day. That’s the beauty of being a woman.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a young Black trans woman who’s also a showgirl and drag queen, I have to work twice as hard to make my presence known, get taken seriously, and get consistently booked at different venues, especially in the south, where it’s heavily pageant based and the local scene itself is predominantly White.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a showgirl, drag queen, and aspiring model. I also cosplay from time to time, mainly as my favorite fictional women from different media such as anime, comic books, video games, and cartoons. Drag is my primary passion while fashion and modeling are my secondary passions. What sets me apart from other drag queens in the Nashville drag scene is my edgy glam aesthetic and transcendent performances.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To not be a crowd pleaser and do what gives me the most joy. It gives me the ability to stand out and it makes participating in the art form of drag a lot more enjoyable.
