Rising Stars: Meet Tyler Reneé

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Reneé. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Tyler Renee, Owner, and Operator of STAY By Renee.

After losing her job due to Covid-19, she decided to pursue her own business. She wanted to bring people together and brighten cozy spaces. The glow of a candle sets the tone and when things smell good, you’re more inclined to STAY!

Tyler has always loved “smellies” and company. Perfume has been a part of her routine since childhood and candles became a hobby as an adult. Once she moved into her own place, she wanted it to be comfortable and welcoming to others. She has a bright personality attached to a contagious laugh. She loves to make people smile and what better way besides the glow of a candle?

Why STAY? The ambiance of a candle can relax your mind or make your home more hospitable for company. Each candle is hand-poured with love and the intention of being present with others. Buttery flakes of 100% soy are melted and blended with potent fragrance oils. Cotton wicks are used to ensure a clean burn with minimum soot. The botanicals in STAY can disguise the smell of smoke allowing the fragrance to linger. Once the aromas fill your space, your company may become too comfortable to leave. However, you can’t blame them for wanting to STAY.

In her spare time, she likes to create and engage with her audience on social media. She paints and enjoys the outdoors. She is a Massachusetts native but resides in Tennessee. Her long-term goal is to mentor children of the incarcerated and guide them to success. With one candle at a time, she plans to light the world up!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing about entrepreneurship is easy! I’m responsible for everything I once clocked in for. It’s rewarding but it can be overwhelming. Freedom comes with responsibility and discipline is key. However, I’m appreciative of the beginning stages of business. It feels good when people enjoy something you created.

The business side of It challenges me the most. Learning about different licenses, taxes, and certain procedures were unfamiliar to me. Thankfully, there’s a ton of information and people willing to help you. I’ve participated in many FREE workshops with Score. The classes are interactive and small enough to ask questions. I encourage anyone considering a business to browse their site.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Everything is Bright! It’s meant to make you feel good the moment you see it. All of the recipes are original and the names creatively uplift you. Each candle includes a tumbled stone at the bottom and a personal note to brighten your day. Lastly, everyone has a chance to become STAYmous!

The STAYmous frame was created to build content until it became the thing to be! I ask all customers to take a picture in a custom frame to share their experience on social media. I’ve captured some great moments and it’s cool to reflect over the people who have supported STAY.

The next phase of my business is to expand in different avenues. I plan to assemble a team to help move STAY move in the right direction. It’s about being patient and sticking to the plan.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been “extra” and animated. My laugh is distinctive and people say it’s contagious. I graduated from a performing arts school, which only amplified my huge personality. I spent most of my time on stage surrounded by people who were just as creative. Many of the people I graduated with are doing some really great things. In fact, some of them are here in Nashville.

From the beginning, my biggest supporters of my enterprises have been my parents. From my smallest businesses endeavor to lucrative lemonade stands, growing up I managed to figure out different ways to make money in my neighborhood. My biggest achievement was cleaning out the shed in my backyard and turning it into a hair salon. It was called Ruff~N~New, you came in looking rough but left out looking new.

Collectively, with used furniture, outdated magazines and dollar store supplies, I had a full business in my backyard. Ruff~N~New was up for about two summers and my clientele grew every year. It’s crazy to think this is my life now, a full-time entrepreneur. Overall, I’m happy and grateful for every aspect of this journey. Thank you for allowing me to STAY.
