Rising Stars: Meet Tyler Walker of East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Walker.

Hi Tyler, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started playing in bands in high school in Pensacola, Florida. I moved to Middle Tennessee in 2006 to attend MTSU for a Recording Engineer / Music Business degree. I graduated in 2010 and moved from Murfreesboro to East Nashville. For the past 10+ years, I have been performing and recording music under the name METH DAD. I have also played in bands such as Blastoids, Awesome Shirt, Terror Pigeon, & Buff Cousin. I threw a “Bike Centric Music Festival” called TOUR DE FUN. I used to run a DIY music & art space called QUEEN AVE ART COLLECTIVE from 2013 to 2016. Over the pandemic, I spent most of my time scoring a “Drive Thru Art Installation” called TEMPO presented by EAMOTION, that took place at the Nashville Speedway. I currently work as a Drum and Keyboard Tech for Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit and DJ under the moniker SESSY.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
CHAOS REIGNS! I try my best to go with the flow & keep a smile on my face.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I spend most of my days on the road as a touring tech or stage manager in different bands. This year I have been working as a Drum & Keyboard tech for Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit and Stage Managing a bluegrass band called The Punch Brothers. When I am not living on the tour bus, I try to spend my time in my home studio. For the past 10+ years, I have toured and made music under the moniker METH DAD. I have played a show in all 50 states and quite a bit of Europe. Over the pandemic, I spent most of my time scoring a “Drive Thru Art Installation” called TEMPO presented by EAMOTION at the Nashville Speedway. I currently am producing and DJing under the moniker SESSY. I also released my first ambient new age album, “BIG MAGIC,” under the moniker BUFF COUSIN. I am currently working on some new SESSY & BUFF COUSIN songs and collaborating with some other musicians.

What are your plans for the future?
Life always keeps me guessing, so I live it day by day. I hope I dig what comes next.
