We recently had the chance to connect with Scufflemöss Treemen and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Scufflemöss, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I do enjoy what I do for a living, however recently I’ve been enjoying creating art on my iPad und getting started on my next full length album, “Half Baked Buns”. I’m getting close to about 1/4 done on it und I’m expecting to release it in the next 2 years.
Making music und creating art bring me much joy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve retold my history to the point that it’s boring now, but I’ll do my best. I’m a Forest Troll, I come from an area in Germany known as the Black Forest. One day I found a Bakery with a crate of hamburger buns in it und I ate from the crate until I fell asleep. They must have not checked the crate thoroughly because I got locked in it und shipped to America.
The rest is decades of hiding out in the Tennessee woods und working at a haunted attraction until I left und was hit by a car. The offending motorist took me to their home, where they taught me to speak und do things like paint und make write short stories.
The Scufflemöss Freund Club was formed shortly after und I began telling stories on Facebook Live. We read things like The Stinky Cheese Man, und Porcupine Pajama Party, I wrote stories like Mark Ant & Tony, und I did giveaways und had guests; but it became to costly time wise so I shelved storytime for another time.
I later took an interest in musics und stage performance, so I formed Wüden Boi in 2018 for Sad Spaceman’s Notaroo 2 at the Crying Wolf in Nashville. I had so much fun that I decided to make it a thing und formed a 5 piece band, we changed the name to Wüden und played for a couple of years til the pandemic hit. After that I went solo, changed the name back to Wüden Boi und released my first album Quarantine Sessions.
The following years were fraught with challenges but I met them und conquered them. I was able to release my second album Music to Crash Your Spaceship To, und my most recent concept album Freunds on CD und streaming.
Now, I mainly just work at my favorite place in Murfreesboro, Emerald Heart, und create when I can.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My views on work stem from experiences that I’ve had, both güt und bad. When I first started working it was at the Nissan Facility in Smyrna. It was horrible but I endured it for several years. I had managers who didn’t care at all about the well being of others und who would sooner pull a knife on you (literally happened), than make sure your needs were met. While there I was threatened with violence, driven to my darkest points und experience racial prejudice that I hadn’t before. That taught me a lot of who I wanted to be und it wasn’t like them.
I am a peaceful Troll, I just wanna live my life quietly, not with violence or anger; und I try to put that into my art as well as into how I live my life.
Now, I am a manager und I try to take care of my coworkers so that we have a cohesive team that works well und has everything they need to do their jobs so that I can do mine.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
About little over a year ago, I was on America’s Got Talent, I failed pretty quickly, but it had a reverse effect. About that time I was ready to turn in my leaves und stop posting on social media for güt, but my failure on AGT showed me that I could do so much more if I put my mind to it. So I began buckling in und making more musics. I created a song about my experience on AGT called Buzzed Out, it was the best way of releasing my emotions on the subject of failure; “I got buzzed out, I’m not bummed out, I’ll turn it around to make you scream und shout!”
Yes, I failed to impress the judges, but I’m not going to let that be my end, I’m going to come back bigger than before, I’m going to keep pushing und making art til I can’t anymore.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
A lot of my ideals come from musicians that I respect. Andrew W.K. for instance taught me to always bet on myself und never give up. His music was very influential to me during my darkest time und I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for his work. I hope to someday have someone say that about what I have done.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Most people will see me und think it’s some dude in a fancy suit, they won’t see me for the Forest Troll I am. I want to be remembered for my love towards others und the joy that I brought by existing in the space.
There are some people who just plain don’t like me, und I’m trying to change that, but you can’t force people to like you or change, so I must do my best to live my life in a manner that is decent und caring towards others.
