We recently had the chance to connect with Sierra Coleman and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Sierra, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Completely stepping out on my own to break into the streaming industry. For years I’ve always thought I needed so much help and things that aren’t really a factor. When in all actuality all I had to do was step out on my own and record my own projects. Which turned out to be a breathe of fresh air.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an artist, motivational speaker & spiritual leader. I have a podcast, where I talk about relationships, the single life and dating. I use my online platforms to reach people on a deeper level outside of the typical trash that’s consuming young people on the internet. I use my voice to motivate others and to help inspire those who may be in a dark place. I am know for being broken rising like a phoenix. Which is how I’m able to minister to the hearts of others.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I remember being a quiet shy kid who always kept her thoughts to herself. I was very laid back as a kid. Then as I got older I tried to fit in as much as I could to what was considered normal. But that actually made me feel even more depressed. I came from poverty, so that’s all I knew and was used to seeing, which is the struggle.
I accepted life as I have to be quiet, listen and take whatever happens even if it meant I had to go without. Once I shook the dust off and stopped living my worldly standards is when I opened up my mouth for once and used my voice unapologetically, which is when I first went viral. My money went up and so did my motivation. Case closed.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
When you suffer, you often want to grind harder and work more diligently. When you reach a certain point of success , sometimes it’s easy to become comfortable, lazy, complacent. Struggle will always make you want to grind to the max. Success is great but it’s the struggle that makes you.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, in fact I have witnesses who have grown up with me and others I’ve spent years with who can speak on my behalf. I’ve always been known as the odd girl or the eccentric woman. Never fit in even when I tried, I still stood out like a sore thumb and it’s because I was destined for greatness. I have a mixture of sides and levels to myself which I display to the world. Even the struggling seasons. It’s what true Authenticity is about. Straight like that.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
When I am at the beach or a lake. Hearing the water reminds me that everything is going to be just fine! Washing all worries away!
