Sita Steele on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sita Steele. Check out our conversation below.

Sita, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I believe I am being called to branch out into the musical theater world. This is intimidating to me, as I have little experience performing in a theater context.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Sita. I am a singer songwriter from Queens, NY and I moved to Nashville back in 2016. I come from the advertising realm- singing, writing, and doing VO for film and television. I still continue to do that, although since moving to Nashville, I’ve had more time to dedicate to developing artist projects. There are several artist projects for which I regularly write and release music. For all of these, I have had the privilege of working alongside my husband, Jacob. He, too, is a singer/songwriter, and producer. We have been working together now for 18 years, and have felt called to a new endeavor- writing a musical! It has been one of the most challenging of my life! I’ve always loved musicals and have always dreamt of being in one. So, one day, Jacob decided we were going to write one. We have been working on it for about a year and a half. Since I have no experience acting, I decided to stretch my legs and do something that would scare me tremendously- improv. I’ve been taking improv classes at Third Coast Comedy Club since August 2024. It has given me fresh perspective and helped me with the creation of our musical. We are about 85% complete with the script, and full score, and hope to premiere it in Nashville at the end of 2026.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I was performing at a school event. I learned that through the gift of music, I had the power to make people experience all kinds of emotions. I believe God has gifted everyone with unique gifts to share with the world. When we align ourselves with our calling, it really does empower us as well as bring positive things to the people around us.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Just do it. I’ve wasted so much time thinking about the things I wanted to do, or thinking about how hard some things might be to get done…and then one day, you wake up and realize the opportunity has passed or circumstances have now changed. If you have a certain thing you want to accomplish, just start! Even if it’s 10 minutes a day or you take one step towards it. Just moving towards your goal a little baby step at a time is better than being stagnant and doing nothing.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Honesty. I don’t think I can have real relationships without honesty. It is foundational for me.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! I think a lot of people do things for outward gratification. But, to me, that cheapens your actions. You should be your best and do your best at everything you put your hands to because doing so should give you an inward sense of fulfillment.
