We recently had the chance to connect with Stacey Kay & Kayla Bulmer Stacey Kay & Kayla Bulmer and have shared our conversation below.
Stacey Kay & Kayla Bulmer, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
BODY ISSUES! Honestly, both of us could win Oscars for how confident and sassy we look on the outside… but the truth is, behind the scenes, we’re fighting the same insecurities as everyone else. Some days it feels like our bodies are the meanest hecklers in the crowd, and social media only hands them a microphone. We hype each other up, but we also secretly know how exhausting it is to constantly battle self-doubt. The funny part? We’re out here preaching body positivity while still questioning our own reflections. But we’re trying!! It’s a daily struggle, but we would like to actually start practising what we preach 😉
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I Have To Call My Sister is the unapologetically funny, heartfelt podcast hosted by real-life sisters Stacey Kay and Kayla Bulmer. The show is a wild mix of comedy, chaos, and honesty—think laugh-out-loud storytelling with a side of “did they really just say that?”
Stacey is a powerhouse singer, rapper, and comedian whose viral performances landed her as a finalist on both Canada’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent. Kayla’s story took a different turn—after accidentally getting pregnant in her early twenties, she quickly learned that “winging it” can actually lead to thriving. Now she’s a proud mom who balances family life with the podcast’s hilarious adventures.
Together, Stacey and Kayla share their unfiltered takes on life, fame, family, and everything in between. Their chemistry is magnetic, their stories are wildly relatable, and their ability to flip between ridiculous comedy and raw vulnerability is what makes the podcast stand out.
At its heart, I Have To Call My Sister is about connection—the messy, funny, real kind that only sisters can share. Whether they’re talking about showbiz, mom life, body image, or spilling embarrassing secrets, Stacey and Kayla remind listeners that nobody has it all figured out… but it’s a lot more fun figuring it out together.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
From Stacey: A moment that really shaped how I see the world was when my artist management company told me I needed to lose 100 pounds in order to be successful. At first, I thought maybe they were right—that shrinking myself was the only way to grow my career. But eventually, I realized that chasing their version of “success” would mean changing so much about myself. So instead, I decided it was way more fun (and way more powerful) to ignore them, show up as my true self, and prove that confidence and talent don’t come with a number on a scale. That choice has shaped not just my career, but the way I move through the world—with more courage, more sass, and a lot more self-love.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
From Kayla: Something I changed my mind about after failing hard was motherhood. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted kids. When I found out I was pregnant in my early twenties, it felt like the biggest “oops” of my life—I thought I had failed before I even started. But what I didn’t realize then was that what looked like failure was actually the beginning of the best thing that ever happened to me. Becoming a mom forced me to grow up fast, but it also gave me purpose, strength, and joy I never expected. Now, I look back and laugh at how unsure I was, because I can’t imagine my life without my kids. That so-called “failure” turned into my greatest win.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
From Stacey: I used to think adult ADHD was kind of a fad—like everyone suddenly had it, and the meds were just a trendy energy drink in pill form. Spoiler alert: I was very wrong. After months of intense testing, I was officially diagnosed, and now I realize ADHD isn’t a phase or an excuse—it’s a whole different operating system. Some days my brain feels like 47 tabs are open and one of them is playing music I can’t find, but at least now I know why. What I once rolled my eyes at turned out to be my actual brain… and honestly, embracing that has been life-changing (and way less naive).
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
From Stacey: One time I got exactly what I thought I wanted—I was cast as the “before” person in a weight loss commercial. For a year, I lived the cliché: grueling workouts, the lowest calories possible, and chugging the company’s magic pills like they were my new personality trait. And sure, I got skinnier than ever. But here’s the plot twist—what I learned was that I’d never been more insecure in my life. I was exhausted, bored of my meals, and miserable. I always thought losing weight would be the answer, but instead it just proved that confidence doesn’t magically appear when the scale goes down. Turns out, the real “before and after” was in my brain, not my body!!
