We’re looking forward to introducing you to Arina Vongvilay. Check out our conversation below.
Arina, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I am always chasing adventure and trying to live life to the fullest of my abilities. I believe that it is essential to explore and push beyond your boundaries and comfort zone to reach your utmost potential.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Arina Vongvilay, and I come from a background in fashion merchandising and storytelling. And I’ve always been drawn to the way creativity and strategy intersect. I graduated with both my high school diploma and associate’s degree at the same time, and later earned my degree in fashion merchandising, which taught me how to balance artistry with business. What makes my journey unique is that I approach fashion and branding not just as trends or visuals, but as experiences, ways to connect people with identity, culture, and confidence. Right now, I’m focused on building a career in fashion and brand direction, where I can bring fresh perspectives, bold ideas, and adaptability to every project I take on.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I would have to say Alice Hilton, my former professor at Belmont University. She has provided me with valuable guidance and advice, supporting me through numerous challenges and encouraging me to push beyond my limits. Her insight, honesty, and mentorship have been a continual source of inspiration, and I will always be deeply grateful for the lasting impact she has had on my academic and professional journey.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be appreciative of the time you’re given and truly live in the moment. When I was younger, I often found myself rushing toward a “finish line” that didn’t really exist. Looking back, I wish I had taken more time to appreciate the phase of life I was in instead of focusing so much on an uncertain future. There is no need to rush; instead, enjoy the journey.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe they would describe me as ambitious and driven. I’m constantly seeking out new challenges and stepping outside my comfort zone to continue growing and refining my skills. My ambition fuels my determination to keep moving forward, no matter the circumstances, and to never settle for complacency.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop conforming to what others believe I should be and instead live freely, without hesitation. While I’m still working toward fully embracing this mindset, it reflects my understanding that everyone will see me differently — but ultimately, I’m the only one who truly knows who I am. Recognizing that truth allows me to make choices that align with my authentic self, rather than catering to the expectations or opinions of others.
