Story & Lesson Highlights with Christy Lee Rogers of Leipers Fork

We recently had the chance to connect with Christy Lee Rogers and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Christy Lee, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I like to think that I’m walking a path but I’m really wandering. After reaching a goal or destination, all I can think is what’s next. It’s all about the experience.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Christy Lee Rogers and I’m a self-taught photographer and multi-media artist originally from Hawaii, now living in Leipers Fork, Tennessee. My work explores the human condition using water’s duality—its serenity and chaos, freedom and vulnerability. I work at night, lighting with chiaroscuro; extreme light and dark contrasts, with the intention of telling deeply personal and emotional stories.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
We separate and fight others when we feel like our core values and intentions are so different. But we all share that basic intuition to do what’s right for our family, self, friends, groups and country. No matter what that may be. If we could just see how beautiful that is, and be able to see the other persons point of view, we could restore that magical bond with others.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
You think you’re the only one going through the pain, but when I started to put out artwork that expressed that vulnerability, I realized that I was not alone. There were so many other people with similar stories. So I started pushing through that and kept working, and magically the pain turned to beauty. It was truthful and there’s nothing better than truth in art.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe there are forces around us that act upon us, that we can’t see or fully perceive with the six senses. Like wavelengths that we connect with when we’re happy, mad or sad. A powerful universe around us that we need to learn how to perceive and use properly. Many people mention this but few really know how to sculpt their experiences with it.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
It is real. I would build a solid foundation to stand upon so that I could create anything my heart desired with certainty, full inspiration and courage. The only thing that can really stop us is ourselves. I would clean up any mess that I made for myself spiritually, that was holding me back from really being the person I want to be. That feels like true freedom to me.
