We’re looking forward to introducing you to D Fitz. Check out our conversation below.
Hi D, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up in the morning relatively early, I’ve become a morning person in my late 20’s and now the start of my 30’s, and I immeadiately make a cup of Cafe Bustello instant espresso to start off the day.
I enjoy my cup of coffee, listen to music, and I meditate on what needs to be done that day.
Then I usually make harsh noise for about 30 minutes with my bass guitar, or I get in the headspace to write for Strawberry BunBun, Standard Cable, or Plight 666.
I finish my cup of coffee, and make another much to my own deligh, and carry on with what needs to be accomplished that day to begin a good tomorrow for myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am DFITZ TRASH ART to some DFITZ TRASH VVITCH to others. D to my family and friends. Fitzy at karaoke. Trash at open mic standup comedy. Buh-duh-tss.
I’m a musician and performance artist, as well as a mixed media and glitch artist. I am primarily a harsh noise musician, and avant-garde performance artist performing as DFITZ.
However, I also have 3 solo projects (Strawberry BunBun, Standard Cable, & Plight666). I recently started harsh noise band called snailsnluv featuring myself creating soundscapes with poetry and Alan Pfeifer on drums.
My harsh noise, performance art, and avant-garde work as DFITZ began almost a decade ago in the Murfreesboro house show scene, and branched off into the Nashville scene.
My live early work involved chaotic performance art usually utilizing paint and props like television sets and record players with skipping records, all the while bass feedback loops and riffs ran rampant with overlying political themes shouted at the crowd in quick burst segments.
My recorded work has evolved over the years to include poetry, EVPS (electronic voice phenomenon), and more- along with bass feedback loops and vocal loops; all of which is purely experimental.
My albums Yours, Forever, and Always I have been performing live as of late.
Yours, Always, and Forever are releases featuring harsh noise made with an 80’s Japanese Bently bass guitar, a Lekato Looper, an Earthquaker Devices Erupter, a 90’s Yamaha Budokan Distortion Amp, and my voice.
The result of which is a sound collage series that showcase the highs and lows, as well as the anxiety and comfort, of experiencing and falling in love.
A portion of my sound, my sound collage series, poetry, and more can be accessed at DFITZ.BANDCAMP.COM
The first of my 3 solo projects is called Strawberry BunBun, and it it a grungegaze and ukulele songs project. It features bass guitar, 2 loopers, a drum machine, and myself on vocals.
My album Moon Flavor is my personal favorite release of Strawberry BunBun’s, along with Somebunny To Love: The Ukulele Covers Album. Both are available on YouTube music and bandcamp.
Strawberry BunBun is about love and loving, and loving yourself and the journey to self love. It’s also about loving strawberries and bunnies. Crucial.

Standard Cable is my 80’s television influenced synthesizer and drum machine project. It features a microKorg synthesizer and an Alesis SR-16 drum machine. This project has a 10 track album that takes you on a retro journey. Thank you for enjoying Standard Cable. Sweet Nostalgia.

Plight666 is my blackened-metal/anarcho-punk project.
It features gritty lyricism, and is a passion project showcasing rage at current events locally, country-wide, and globally.
Together our voices are strong.

snailsnluv is my new noise band featuring myself creating harsh noise soundscapes with poetry, and Alan Pfeifer from Flummox on drums.
Our harsh noise soundscapes tell the story of two snails in love, floating amidst the stars, intertwined. Passion and slime, and romanticism and nihilistic musings.
We are just two snails in love.

I currently have mixed media artwork available at Hop Spings until the end of September. They are showcing a series of 7 of my mixed media paintings featuring rabbits titled my “Dreamy Bunnies” series.
If you are interested in viewing my paintings, or in having a nice brew please check out Hop Spring in Murfreesboro, TN. Also available for live events.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My art teachers were always very there for me growing up, and were always very supportive of my mixed media work.
I wouldn’t be the person I am without them today.
Support the arts, and your local arts programs.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Music and art have always been there for me, from as early as I can remember.
For every feeling there is a sound, shape, brushstroke, and color.
Still to this day when I am feeling sad or scared I turn to music and to art.
There is no better relief in all of this madness than to create.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Community, building a better future together, music, and art.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
When I am with my cat, Punkinzboi.
