Debbie Adams shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Debbie, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Who are you learning from right now?
Who am I learning from right now is a good question. We should all be learning from someone and we should continue to learn every day.
I remember being in college and thinking when I get that degree I won’t have to be learning about all this and studying anymore: however, little did I know that you have to continue to learn in our journey of life.
So who am I learning from, I am learning from God as He shows me new things every day. God has been showing me some new things about myself that I didn’t know existed!! I’ve been going through some new challenges in my life and God showed me how much inner strength and stamina I really do have to keep pressing on no matter what is thrown at me on my journey of life.
So whatever is thrown at us in our lives, just search deep inside yourself to find your inner strength and keep going and don’t stop just keep pushing forward!! There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel so keep pushing through whatever life situations come your way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Southern Belle and I live in Middle Tennessee. I’m happily married and have 3 cats. I love the ocean and my favorite colors are pink and purple. I grew up with a love of reading and occasionally writing stories and I still do love to read! Several years ago God spoke to me about sharing my testimony of faith in writing and now I’m sharing it in writing and speaking. What I thought was going to be 1 book has ended up being 3 so far! God is using me to not only share my testimony of faith but also to share the love of Jesus and to encourage and inspire others.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
My early life is so different from what I am now because I believe God was molding and preparing me for what He had planned for my future.
I believe God was preparing me as I was growing up because even then I wrote small stories from my imagination.
In my younger years, I didn’t have confidence in myself in what I could do and I was very shy and I usually held my head down. I didn’t talk to anyone I didn’t know. Now God has given me the confidence I need and He has showed me that I have a voice and I even talk to strangers. Years ago you would not catch me talking to a group of people from a live stage and for the past 2 years, Ive been a speaker at a conference. I’ve also been speaking on podcasts for the past several years. Thanks to God I’m a completely different person now from the person I was in my early years.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
What fear has held me back the most is probably one of the greatest fears we all have had at one time in our life. That is the fear of feeling incompetent.
In my early years, I had this fear a lot. I felt like I wasn’t as smart as others to be able to do things. Now being an author I still do occasionally have the fear that nobody is going to read my books and that I don’t write as good as other authors. I have to keep telling myself it’s not a competition and to keep going and writing what God wants me to write. It’s hard sometimes not to compare ourselves to others. It’s a daily struggle sometimes; however, we need to do what God has planned for us to do and not trying to be like someone else.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Is the public version of me the real me is another good question. The answer to that is Yes! The only one I will change for is God and so what you see is the real me in both public and personal.
You will see and hear a Southern Belle when you see me in public. I have my southern accent that I’m proud of and I will be the same no matter where I’m at or what I’m doing.
I’m not about pretending or being a fake so you don’t need to worry that I won’t be real should you see me in public.
Any time you’re dealing with the public, they shouldn’t have to wonder if you’re real or faking something to make themselves appear better. Just be yourself and you will put off a better image for others to see!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people remember my faith was always in God and I trusted Him above any earthly person! I hope they know that the reason I write faith inspiration books was to lead others to Jesus and to encourage and inspire them.
The other thing is that I hope they know that my family was my everything and I was ever so thankful for them! I want them to remember how I would always do what I could for my family.
I want them to remember how I tried to show the love of Jesus in my life and I tried to share the love of Jesus with everyone I met.
