Elia Esparza shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Elia , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Wake up, drink tons of water and take my probiotic. I try to journal every morning, and do at least 3 pages non stop.
then lymphatic drainage massage/ ice roll, light skincare.
I’ll head to the gym and workout, stretch and sometimes sauna!
And thats pretty much my every morning routine.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello!
I’m Elia Esparza, born in El Paso, Texas from a Mexican-American family.
I started singing at a very young age, my family was always having parties and I always had to put on a show. My parents swing as well, so we were always doing karaoke (and still do).
I got into choir, theatre, dance at age 10 and started taking voice lessons as well. I grew up loving theatre, acting and musicals and starred in many through high school.
At 17 I moved to NYC to attend The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. Once in New York, I became very involved in recording studios as a session singer and songwriter. I was balancing theatre and film auditions along with beginning to record my own songs.
A few years later, I got on The Voice, which led me to The Voice Mexico and American Idol.
I moved back to Texas, and started working on my music and performing live every week all over town.
I’ve had the opportunity to sing for the NFL, Hyundai Sunbowl, open for artists at The Greek Theatre and Don Haskins.
I moved to Nashville in 2022 to continue pursing music and finding creatives to work with and met my producer Brent McCoullough who Ive now made my EP with.
Im now releasing my ep, ‘Not To Be Dramatic’ on October 3rd and so excited for it. Its the first time in over 10 years I’ve released a complete project and its turning into an album.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I remember sitting in my room when I was younger and singing along to Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera and almost feeling like I could hit the notes like them.. having the ability to feel the emotion and power like them made me feel powerful and such a euphoric feeling. When I’m on stage and singing songs I still feel that, because I almost cant believe I can these songs. And that my voice is actually capable of that.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Those early years of living in NYC and be a starving artist, working 3-4 jobs and staying up all night in the studio taught me a lot. It taught me there’s always a way to make things happen if you want it bad enough.
I learned how to hustle and make it work, even if it feels impossible because most times you do make it happen and things turn out better than expected.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to ‘make it’ by a certain age or time or else there’s no point.
I dont think music and art have a limit, I think it can be timeless and as long as your pursuing the dream you love, the time will come when oure meant to be seen.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not going after the dreams and desires of my heart. Sounds so cheesy but its true!
I have many dreams among music and being an artist. I want to star in a Broadway Musical one day, I want to be in films and television shows, I’d love to tour the world, create foundations for younger artist, start a clothing/beauty line, open a coffee shop!.. there’s a lot I’d like to do and I hope I get the chance to pursue each one at some point in my life.
