We’re looking forward to introducing you to Hannah Burrell. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Hannah, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something that is bringing me joy outside of work are my nieces and nephew. They just radiate so much joy! It is a highlight of mine to see their personalities already at each of their very young ages(9months, 1yr, 2yr). They provide so much laughter and curiosity to each day that it creates a sense of peace and happiness.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Hannah Burrell and I am the founder of Sterling Photography. I started Sterling Photography a little over a year ago after graduating college. As photography has always been an interest of mine, I decided to finally take the leap and form my business. Lifestyle photography is the main focus of my brand with engagement, family, and senior sessions. I love that photos are what we look back on to remember moments of our lives and I want to capture those joyful moments for others. I am working on incorporating brand photography into my brand as well with lifestyle photography. I have always had an interest in product photography, so I would love to help businesses out with that.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My younger sister of two years saw me clearly before I could see myself. We grew up sharing a room for our whole childhoods, so we have always been super close. She sees who I truly am. She loves me the way I am and knows the real me. She always pushes me to be who I am and embrace it, so others will see that too.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear of rejection has played a big role in my life. I am the type of person who wants people to like me and, for clients, the pictures I take. I have learned over the past few years that it is not possible for everyone to like you, but you can have some amazing close friends and great clients who love what you do. I am at the point in my life where I love meeting new people and the possibility of creating great friendships without letting the fear hold me back.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my mother for her character. She is so patient with everyone and has so much strength in many ways. She was a stay at home mom for me and my 3 sisters growing up, which I am sure was never easy. My mom is so loving and kind towards others which makes me look up to her a lot. She listens well and truly cares. We are very close and I will always look up to her.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I tend to feel most at peace when I am at the beach. The ocean is my happy place and the lull of the waves always sounds so peaceful, especially when basking in the warm sun. My faith is a big part of my life and, as a Christian, reading the Bible, singing worship songs, and listening to a sermon on Sunday morning all cause me to feel at peace as well.
