Izzy Stefany shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Izzy, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Since the new year, I’ve made it my goal to wake up, spend time with Jesus, eat something healthy, and move my body for the first couple hours of my morning. It’s been awesome!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Izzy, and I am a singer/songwriter and podcaster based in Nashville. I started teaching piano and voice to help pay the bills and really love it, so I balance my time between writing, performing, teaching, and podcasting. I am a military kid so I can’t really say that I’m from anywhere, I moved every three years growing up, but Nashville has come to feel like home since graduating college and settling in. My goal is to write music that connects people with each other and with God– in a digital age there are so many things that come between real human connection and connecting with the divine, and I want to share art that bridges that gap. My podcast is about all things Jesus!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think that if you have good communication skills, practice gratitude, and if you’re patient with others, your relationships will flourish. Real love is patient and kind and humble and authentic and sacrificial. If you are honest and vulnerable, people with connect with you. Don’t let small things ruin your week, be grateful for what the Lord has given you, and realize that everyone makes mistakes and is doing their best. If you notice that you haven’t been patient or kind, or that you’ve allowed yourself to act out of jealousy or resentment or selfishness, present a genuine apology that acknowledges what you did wrong and how you want to better serve the other person in the future.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I really miss how it felt to be a little kid. How your parents hold you, how people encourage you and lift you up… as you get older, you don’t get the hugs and the loving words as often even though you need them just as much.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I hold myself to a very high standard and I enjoy consistency in my life in more ways than one, but especially in my values and in my character, no matter who I’m talking to or how many people I’m standing in front of.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
At church!
