Story & Lesson Highlights with Jenna Marotta of Franklin

We recently had the chance to connect with Jenna Marotta and have shared our conversation below.

Jenna, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Painting. I do canvas painting as a way of passing time.

It’s always something that can bring me back to center, remind me how creative I can be, and time flies!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an artist, performer, writer, and entrepreneur.

I’ve been writing music for almost 30 years and am passionate about making music that people want to relate to. I want people to hear my music and know it comes from the heart and they can allow it to free their soul.

I enjoy using my brand to make people laugh and have hope. Music is the biggest connector!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
My best friend was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in March and lost her battle in September.

Suddenly the world changed as I knew it right in front of my eyes.
People’s problems and every day complaints began to seem extremely trivial to me as I watched her go through many more struggles and I had ever seen anyone go through in such a short period of time.

My perspective on life changed. I also became a lot more resilient and a lot more ready to help the next person instead of always putting myself first.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes absolutely. After I released my first album and I had lost about 14 friends and family members in about a year and a half time I went into a very dark place.

When I released, I had no solid business plan in mind and I didn’t really take much return in the money I invested, and it took a real toll on me.

I walked very far back into depression for a while and had to regain my strength.

But thanks to God and my move to Tennessee. I was able to spend a lot of time Healing.

And the great return has led me to wonderful things and is a substantial reason for my future second album being called “Can’t Break Me” . As of this week, I have officially chosen all of the tracks for the album and I am 98% written.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am still working on starting a nonprofit called the “little apples” where I help children who have survived and come through domestic violence situation through scholarship, money and future endeavors.

I put the project on hold this year to focus on helping my friend and a few other things, but I am steadily working to continue my mission to form this organization.

I am excited to be releasing my new single to the public this week under my stage name : jennapple. “Runaway” is coming to all platforms this month!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I am sure that my music won’t resonate with everyone. Much of my secular, humorous side won’t resonate with everyone.
That doesn’t make me any different that them . I love love and a lover of life as God would want us all to be.
