Jonathan, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Awaking day; typically begins at 5:45 AM, start a two-three hour workout to ensure self-care. Checking business emails, returning messages, voicemails etc. beginning at 8 am. From 8-12 skills trainings for clients in the daytime/lunch break.

From 2-4 o’clock a second workout for self-care or a skills training fill in.
From 3; 30-5 o’clock school ball practice; 5:15-8pm ”Inspired Athletes” company I currently own skill trainings.

In the meantime, completing advertising opportunities when the day is complete.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Jonathan Barfield is a proud Memphis native and a graduate of Tennessee State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a master’s degree in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction.

His professional journey began in the field of education, where he served as a site director overseeing before and after school programs.
However, his passion for sports and mentoring youth led him to step away from the education system and fully commit to his vision. On October 5, 2022, Jonathan officially formed Inspired Athletes, turning his dream into a thriving reality.

Former Collegiate and Euro basket Athlete; Owner and Founder of Inspired Athletes, Jonathan Barfield created a basketball skills development company that has worked with over 500 athletes in the Middle Tennessee area.

Current assistant coach Montgomery Bell Academy 7th and 8th grade boys. Former 7th and 8th coach St.Bernard Academy. Currently served as the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at St. Paul Christian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee.

He has an extensive coaching background that includes AAU and club teams. Under his leadership in his second season at St. Paul, the team achieved a 13-2 record, secured a 1-1 finish in the Overbrook Classic Tournament, and advanced as a high seed in the playoffs, ultimately finishing second in the HVAC/Harpeth Division out of eleven teams. He is supported by assistant coaches Ro Stevans and Victor Sanford.

Skills Trainer Core Hoops, Vertical Gym, Pro Skills Basketball. Currently Pursing Collegiate, NBA Levels, Gym ownership

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My grandmother/mother; who passed away May-30-2023 developing a work ethic; learning how to work hard at a young age. Utilizing my work ethic to inspire and educated through athletics.

Instilling the morals of character, honesty,, integrity applied to the spaces of business/ Corporate America

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
In high school was cut from my 9th and 10th team. Keep working and trying earned a partial basketball scholarship Lambuth Univesity 2008-2009. Invited to a camp for unsigned seniors in the spring of 2008. Played a year in college; Eurobasket.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Remaining direct and honest with people; character is more important than money. Being a man/person of your word. To inspire others, Jonathan believes in being motivated himself and treating each person as an individual.

Understanding that results take time and patience is crucial for sustainable success.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Yes doing what was born to do; utilizing athletic talents to inspire the next generation of athletes. Attributing success to strong problem-solving , decision-making abilities, time management, meticulous record-keeping, cost control, and a relentless focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences.
