Story & Lesson Highlights with Kevin Barry

Kevin Barry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kevin, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day is wake up in a hotel room, good find breakfast, kill about 8 hours either walking around a mall, seeing a movie or maybe going on a adventure in the random town we are in that day, then get to the venue set up to soundcheck, eat, wait a little longer then play a show, after that we talk to to fans sell merch then loadout and go back to the hotel to sleep and repeat that process!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My Name is Kevin Barry I’m the frontman of the emo band Borderline Natives we’ve been a band since 2018 and have been touring full time for a little over a year now

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
This is interesting because from birth I only wanted to be a musician, the world always told me to get a 9-5 and I responded with
“No thanks” even when I got my first jobs I always said to myself “this is temporary” and it turns out I was right.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
This is tough, I think if you were to ask us this as band it would be different answers but me and Bobby would tell you the day the our friend Kaleb died was a tough time because he was completely irreplaceable, one of the greatest musicians I’ve had the pleasure of working with was taken in a freak accident after his passing we took our only break as a band for about 6 months, then I called Bobby and we agreed that’s not what he would have wanted so back to grind we went!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Unity, plain snd simple

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop using social media and just play as many shows and write as many songs as I can to bring as many people together before I go
