Michelle Renae shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ince breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Reading! I love taking my eyes off of a screen which I’ve been doing way too much lately! A good fantasy book is the perfect takeaway from the world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Michelle Renae and I’m an aspiring pop artist and producer from Las Vegas! I moved to Nashville about a year ago to take up a job at a record label, and now I’m engaged, almost graduated college, and have my own music studio in my apartment! My bread and butter is a mix of bubble, dream and synth pop. If The Weeknd’s songs sounded a little more joyful, that would be me haha. But despite my love for pop music, I’m aspiring to be a multi-genre producer and love working with artists from almost any genre.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Wow…I’d say I was a dreamer and creator before the world told me otherwise. I loved everything as far as art goes: writing stories, making dresses, writing songs, playing music, singing, drawing, painting even acting! Anything creative, I absolutely adored and embraced it. That changed as I got older and became super insecure about that “nerdy” stuff. But now, I’m trying to shed that and embrace my creative self again.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Success could never teach me to be kind to others and myself. Success could never teach me how to truly live. It doesn’t matter what you pursue, life has suffering. And you can take that suffering and drown in it, or swim with the current. I’ve learned to be more positive and just happy, even if there is still suffering in my life.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Definitely not, but I also prefer to keep it that way. While I am beyond passionate about music, that is not entirely who I am. I am also a fiancé, daughter, sister, student, baker, secretary, writer, and so many other things. The “public version” of myself is just for my music and is almost a character I put on. Aligning that stuff with the real me and the entirety of me I think would be detrimental.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was kind. That’s it. I just want to know that my kindness changed people. That’s all.
