We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sarah Caum. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Sarah, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Slow, by design. I’ve intentionally slowed down my mornings as an act of self-care and alignment. I start by tending to the pets, then I make a cup of coffee and sit by the window to look out into the woods. That quiet moment, just me, the trees, & the stillness, helps set the tone for the day. It’s part of how I’m intentionally bringing ease into my life and inviting inspiration in, rather than chasing it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sarah Caum, and I’m the heart behind Sacred Kitchen, a culinary project rooted in intention, storytelling, and seasonal, scratch-made food. Blending my background as both an artist and a chef, I use food as a medium for connection, healing, and celebration. Sacred Kitchen offers private chef experiences, workshops, pop-up dinners, and creative collaborations that center on local ingredients, cast iron cooking, and Southern-inspired comfort with a gourmet twist. My work honors slow living and soulful nourishment, inviting people back to their roots, both in the kitchen and within themselves.Right now, I’m resting, intentionally stepping away from hustle and survival-driven projects, making space for aligned opportunities to find me as I continue living and creating slowly.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Aunt Nancy saw me before I had the language to see myself. In a family that labeled her the black sheep, too eccentric, too much, too wounded, she carried a kind of knowing that went unspoken. She looked at me and recognized the same restlessness, the same spark, the same refusal to shrink. Long before I could articulate it, she knew I was meant for more than the life we were born into. Her belief in me planted something that’s still growing.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Every day. And never. All the time and absolutely not. I flirt with giving up constantly, but the truth is, I have no choice but to keep going. I keep showing up, keep trying, keep throwing darts to see what sticks because something always does.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe everyone deserves happy taste buds. Exciting, nourishing food is part of the human experience, and everyone should have access to it. One project I’m committed to, no matter how long it takes, is building a community kitchen that feeds those in need and empowers them through food. I dream of offering cooking education for youth and women healing from trauma, along with starter kitchen kits. This work is about dignity, joy, and reclaiming nourishment as a right, not a luxury.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
I don’t. I rarely feel like I know what I’m doing. I’m winging it, guided by intuition and trust. I learn as I go, constantly taking leaps of faith and jumping into the unknown. I have no idea the depths I swim.
