Story & Lesson Highlights with Susanna Poeysti

Susanna Poeysti shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Susanna, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
The heart of our business is the clients and vendors we have the opportunity to work with. Something that I have learned (and maybe been a little bit surprised by) is the kindness and relationships we have built with our clients. I grew up with work being separate from personal life, but I have enjoyed and am so encouraged by the relationships our team has built with clients. We not only assist with their events but have now become a part of their lives, and they have become a part of mine. Celebrating and seeing our clients succeed in life warms my heart, and I’ll keep cheering them on for years to come.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Our business is Lumi Accents, a full-service event and wedding planning firm. We design and plan events of all scales and sorts for families and brands that align with our brand of kindness, loving details, celebrating life, and having memorable moments. We stand out due to our love for details and also having the motto “WE STRESS THE LITTLE DETAILS SO YOU AND YOUR GUESTS CAN CELEBRATE YOUR MOMENT”.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up, I was taught that you could not have a creative job. Every job that was on the table was either engineering, becoming a doctor, a lawyer, or the “typical” job. I never believed that creating events was in the cards for me until I started my business. I am so grateful that we live in a world that allows for opportunities when we work hard for them.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Being an entrepreneur is not a smooth or easy journey, especially when doing it on your own or starting on your own without financial assistance. There have been multiple times when business was slow, where I second-guessed my abilities and skills. I am thankful for having people in my corner who encouraged me to push forward and continue with the business, as I could not believe a life without creating events and assisting our clients.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes – I try to be as authentic online as in-person. My friends and family see what I share online of the business pages, also on my personal accounts.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace with my family, at home, traveling, walking in nature, or right after creating a beautiful event.
